I love beer, Washington has kick ass beer everywhere, what is your favorite beer? Had to post something for #500 and as I sit here drinking another Alaskan Winter Ale (brewed with spruce tips) I thought through my buzz that this is the best damn beer Ive ever had. Expensive but 6.4% alc. gets my approval. In fact im going to go buy a shiatload of it as its only around for 3months.. Ill pass ya a few if I see ya on the water...Cheers.

About this time of the year we Tony and i get on a Guinness kick...i cant help it..as soon as they stock it at Costco we are back on the kick...i actually loose weight drinking Guinness, so it is not as thick and weight adding as people think...its more of a eat less with dinner drink...maybe so you can drink more...hahaha

I do like the Alaskan Winter Ale, and that is another of my moms boyfreinds favorites...he drinks Henrys pretty much the rest of the year..i like going over there and drinking his beer...i always buy him a coulple of cases for xmas...hahha...(but this year i got him his fav football team jacket)

most of the summer i like Vodka and Cran...nice summer drink!! soooo refreshing...
springtime is a mix of everthing...but most of the time i fall back on my cheap box wine...i like Sangria the best...im a fruty kind a girl...hahaha

but if i had to pick a normal beer...right now they dont have Guinness, so it would have to be St Pauly Girl....i like that pretty good...and it goes pretty quick at the fishing clubs...i was the beer girl, but next year will be the treasurer!! yeah me...hahahaha...

mmmmmmmm...beeeeer....wish i could say it on here like Homer Simpson...hahahaha

Personally I like darker beers and ales, black butte porter, becks dark alaskan amber, etc. Recently a friend at work got me into brewing my own. Nothing like beer on tap. I got a 1200.00 fridge in the garage to keep my kegs. Ok, OK, the fridge in the garage wasn't 1200.00, the new one for the wife in the kitchen was and I got the old one. Nothing wrong with it, she just kept saying that she never did like it, so now I got a beer fridge I brew all kinds of ales, they got clones for just about everything out there. Kinda fun and you can drink beer while you make more, gotta love that. Right now I have a batch of Alaskan Amber in the fermenter

Alaskan Amber = Estrogen Ale. It's the first beer a chick usually drinks and likes. Right up there with any of the Hefeweisen's. ;\)

Life is too short to drink Estrogen Ale or beer with fruit in it. (Mexican beers with a lime are an exception to that rule.)

I prefer a beer with some flavor.

Think IPA's. Think Porter's. Think Stouts.

Some of my personal recommendations would be:

Bridgeport IPA
Broken Halo IPA
The Immortal IPA (Elysian ROCKS!)
Diamond Knot IPA
Murphy's Stout
Guinness
Obsedian Stout
Black Butte Porter
Welsh (on tap only)
Paulaner Oktoberfest (on tap only)

If you are in the UW area, stop by the BigTime and make sure you get a pint of the Decade IPA when they make it.

Or, if you have a Keggerator at home and live in Seattle, stop by Maritime Pacific and when you order up a keg, have Julie dry-hop it for you.

Dry-hopeed Flagship Red. Yum!

By far, Oregon has a lot more cooler micro breweries than WA does. I love going down PTown for a day of beer drinkin.

Not only is Washington a great place to live for all the outdoor activites available, we do have some of the best beer around. About the only type of beer I don't care for are the breakfast beers. I have been known to drink water instead of crap like Coors light.
I've tasted and liked all the beers mentioned previously. One of the best Christmas presents I have ever received from one of my sons is an 8 month delivery of the "The Beer of the Month Club". On about the last of the month, a DHL driver would show up at the office with a 12 pack of 4 types of beer from 2 different breweries around the US. All of them were top notch. What a great son!
However, when it comes down to it, if I'm out in a pub I drink a Mac & Jack's unless I'm at Silver City then it's the Fat Scotch Ale at 9.2%.
For high proof, Dick's makes a seasonal barley wine at about 13%. It should be available now. I usually get it at the Red Apple in Silverdale.

Heh.

We used to kegs of Maritime's Christmas beer - Jolly Roger. Comes in at a 9+ percent.

"Keel Hauled" is the word that comes to mind after a night of drinking that stuff.

One nameless department at the UW got a keg of that for their christmas party. By the time it got late, people were photocopying body parts, the christmas tree got set on fire (and thrown in to the lake), etc.

It was a good time.

Evil high powered beer! I love the stuff!

1 or 2 red beers in the eve made with Henry's--Lil Clamato, dash of celery salt, couple 2 or tree dabs of Tabasco -remainder BEER-in a chilled mug

a couple 4-5 Kokanee's or Labatt's in the locker room after a hockey game (even better alcohol content in Canada)

In the bar--Alaskan, Fat Tire, Dunklevisen (sp), hell basically too many to list eh

The best beer is always the one you are in the process of drinking. How you chose that beer depends on season, location, state of sobriety and capital (loot, duckets, greenbacks, doguh...). Brand loyalty is a corporate construct. That is all...

Well, sometimes the simplest answer is the real truth. Very hard to argue with that viewpoint. I think DiverX hit the nail with his head with that post. I mean - on the head.

Based on the can litter along the rivers I fish, I concluded that fishermen have the worst taste in beer, pretty much any cheap animal beer. It's nice to see that a few members of the angling community are discriminating enough to not pollute their bodies with cheap macro brew. I don't know what the best beer is, and don't think there is a best, since taste is so subjective. I don't care for lighter beers, except maybe on a hot summer day. Mostly I like amber ales like Full Sail, Alaska, and Fat Tire. Black Butte Porter is one of my favorites also. I also liked that Scottish amber that Grant's in Yakima served. Sorry to learn that brew pub went under.

No matter what beer you drink if you drink enough of it, long enough, it starts to taste like Pabst.

That said however, I switch beers all the time, but my current Favorites right now come from North Coast Brewing in Ft. Bragg, CA. When I was in WY & CO last summer I samples a load of really kick ass brews from outfits I've never heard of and never see around here and some I have. Left Hand Brewing was a notable. WY, CA, and CO are leaving WA & OR in the dust as far as Brewing goes.

Yep. Alot of imported beers such as Guinness are castrated down to 3.2% for sale in Utah and Oklahoma. Red Stripe is another.

I still can't figure out why Americans act so stupid after they take a shot of Jagermeister. Its not like the swill they sell here has any Opium in it.

Another thumbs up for Boundary Bay Brewery in Bellingham... their IPA is heavenly. It glows in the glass!

For those that like porters, you have to check out Lazy Boy Porter (brewed in Everett). I'm a big fan of Black Butte Porter but Lazy Boy blows it away.

I'm not a fan of Alaskan Amber. That stuff is WAY too sweet. If you like it, give Mac and Jac's a try.

BTW, if you're ever in Mt. Vernon, stop by and drink a couple pints at "The Porterhouse". It is right around 1st and Gates downtown and they have a constantly rotating list of about 20 West coast beers. Water Street Brewery in Port Townsend also worth a stop.

Dick's Brewing has a good selection. I always pick up a case of various beers whenever I drop off or pick up meat being made into sausage. Just finished some of their Winter Ale, pretty good! Gotta pick up Hunter's pepperoni on Saturday, so I'll restock then.

Free beer is ALWAYS the best beer.

I like to throw some company in with my beer.......Clamato, Tabasco, maybe a couple pickled beans. And then a couple geezers to normalize the buzz.

asking me about my favorite beer, is about the same as asking what my favorite rod is. different situations call for different brews!

though, i think that there are very few times i can say no to a mirror pond, or bachelor ESB. i like a lot of the pales and ESBs(excluding that redhook AB swill). not a fan of IPAs any more. that extra alcohol kick most have is nice, but they all taste like pine needles to me now.

also a big fan of some of those thicker stouts and porters...now's a great time of the year because widmer snowplow is on the shelves. only problem is that the stuff is like drinking heavy cream, after i have 1 bottle of the stuff it feels like i've drank about 10 of them. alaskan stout is pretty good(their amber kind of sucks, though). guinness is OK, but has about as much alcohol as a budweiser and doesn't really taste like much.

some of the heavier beers need to be poured in a glass with a bit of head before quaffing. Drinking them out of the bottle just doesn't taste as good.
If I'm after a mexican breakfast beer, I go for Pacifico. According to my friend's that are old Mexico hands, Corona's water wells are polluted. It's probably brewed stateside now however, but they won't drink it anywhere.

I have. That's a good one, too!

I generally go to about 2 or 3 beerfests a year - for the last 10+ years.

I stopped going to the PTown one because it got lame.

I honestly don't think there are too many NW beers out there that I have not sampled.

As Homer and I often say:

"Beer is my only true friend. Beer will never leave me."

PS. I will never turn down a free cold beer. Ever. The best beers are almost always the free ones! \:D

Good call on the Rogue Brutal Bitter. Most of the Rogue beers are pretty damn good.

For an IPA that doesn't scream cascade hops, I'd put Full Sail's "Wreck the Halls" near the top of the list... get it while you can!
