The message sent is important. But so is the message recieved. It is amazing that some people here are uninterested in how they are percieved. Rather than using it as a learning experience, some people here took the low road.
It has nothing to do with some perceived notion of political correctness. Racism is common in the fishing community. We have all been pushed out of holes by racial and ethinc groups that do not understand the American sense of respect. With things like that happening it is understandable that people will react, and rightly so. But react to individuals and react to the situation: not the race or ethnicity.
I stand up for my rights, as I expect that you do also. One other thing I do is speak up when I see racism. I don't know if racism was intended by what was said elsewhere. I just know it could be percieved that way.
I spoke up as I do always, and always will. I would think a person of good will would understand, and wish to weed out statements and words that might be misunderstood. That you might not have intended to make a statement that could be taken as racist is important; but it is also important that it could be taken that way...hence the message recieved.
Try taking the high road for a change. Eye to eye, man to man, the high road. Not some perception of politcal correctness. I am talking man to man.
The word snigger, as in "to laugh" was not the intended meaning. Calling a snagger a snigger was not meant as a joke. I can not see anyone here calling a person a snigger and laughing "ha ha" and then going on fishing. If the word was used it would be with anger or offense, spoken to insult. If you say otherwise, you have no intellectual integerity. You have no honor either.
