Another problem with using the 200 DHSV's for spoon fishing is that if you are fishing in the spring for big fish, they don't have the drag capacity to really stick it to a big fish, with a big hook, without sending six feet of line out the end of the reel...the 300's have a drag that is five times stronger, and the retrieve rate is more conducive to fine tuning your spoon during the cast...

MetalHead, unless you are fishing fairly shallow water (i.e., four feet deep), in the winter if you aren't constantly giving and taking line to keep your spoon "in the groove", then you are really only fishing during the times your swing and the correct depth randomly occur coincidentally...that's why you don't use spinning reels to fish with spoons, you can't give and take line properly.

Fish on...

Pretty tough to beat the Curado series.....only had 1 ever give me a bad time....and Shimano replaced it, when they couldn't repair it correctly.

The new 7:0 retreive is a excellent reel.....I agree with others...just "crank slower" and its sooooooo nice to be able to pick that line up quickly when that fish runs "right at you".

EBAY, EBAY, EBAY......yea I know all about buying local but ????? When I'm looking at a savings of $40+ dollars, well?????

Just looked. 12/17....10:47......123 curado's for sale.....many NIB, some of the "DHSV" are going for $149...free shipping......and of course "no tax".

Have a good day!!!! Remember a dollar saved, can be spent on $3,25 gas, lol.

Cool Todd, that's what I figured you meant.

I gotta say I love my Curado for fishing spoons... and everything else. I've never had an issue with the drag, but I tend to use the thumb to manage my drag. Line capacity does concern me a bit, especially since the move to 12-15# test... but I normally have fish come unpinned long before they could spool me (yes, we are working on that... I've got a call in to Dr. Phil)I'd get one of the new 300 series, but they don't make them for us normal guys that reel with our left hands. ~josh

MH,

They do now...you can get a 301DSV...I saw them at Sportsman's Whorehouse last week when I was picking up a couple 300's...

Fish on...

I just noticed that on Ebay.

I was thinking, however, that the 300 series with the 6.3:1 and substantially larger spool would pick up just about the same amount of line as the 200 series with the 7:1. It's only .7 more rotations of the spool per crank (so that's like 10% more)... but the spool on the 300 holds pert'near twice as much line. Should just about come out in the wash, don't you think? ~josh

dont over look the revo's. im using 2 of them right now. and will never use another curado. the revos are alot tighter reels then any curado ive ever felt and you can get them with the carbonex drag washers.

im only using the cheaper $99 revo's and everyone who has test cast my rod has went out and baught one. the 2 models up from mine both come with carbonex drags and come in 7.1 retrieve

i highly recomend checking them out if you dont want to spend $200 on the curado. the revo sx-hs is one very nice feeling reel and they have no handle play like the curados do,

i've heard nothing but good things about the revos from the bass fishermen, but haven't seen them used by any steelheaders yet. they just came out with an "inshore" model with a higher line capacity.

from what i've heard, the drag on them blows every other reel on the market out of the water.

thats cuase you dont fish by me, and i have yet to see another steelheader use one. but 5 of my buddies have baught them already. but i dont like fishing with those guys lol they get to lucky to often

im only using the cheap ones and they are awesome. the only complaint i have is i didnt buy 2 when i baught my first one for $70 lol oh and i cant find a sx-hs in left hand retrieve anywhere.

140/12lb

8 ball bearings and 1 roller bearing. the revo-s is really smooth. BUT the sx and sxt are insainly smooth.

and the only reason i didnt buy the higher models is cause i baught the first one as a test sence i didnt hear anything about them. and then i just liked it so i got another one for my float rod. i didnt see a need for buying the higher model sence the cheaper one is working perfectly after 6 months.

A buddy of mine that I fish with from time to time bought a Revo and he likes it. He got the higher end one though. I am thrilled with my Daiwa Fuego. My next reel will be that Diawa 7:1 retrieve Zlillion lefty.

My opinion is this...

140/12lb is not nearly good enough for fishing for nates in the spring...the 300 will hold more like 210 yards of 15...at 140/12, we're looking at about 100, 110 yards of 15...

For the summer, and winter brats, it would be excellent...I have a Record 50 and a DHSV200 for those times, and that's about the line capacity that they have, too.

Fish on...

Todd

Thanks for all the replies, but I have to stick to the confidence factor and that is Daiwa for bait casting. The Curado 200 DHSV is a great reel but I can't get used to the size and weight, ( purchased and sold 2 of them last fall). Love the size and weight of my TD Zillion (8.6oz) and TD Fuego (7.4oz). These reels are rock solid. So I decided to stay with Daiwa and purchased a TDA 153 HSTA. 11bb @ 8.5oz. gear ratio of 6:3.1. with a line capacity of 140yrds of 12lb. Very good reviews. Thanks........... Reels are for winter brats only.......

Never seen this reel, after looking over the spec-sheet.........looks like Ol Sidedrifter did his homework. 1.2 oz lighter than the new curado 200, great drag, on=the-fly backlash control, 6.2 to 1, same line cap. & cheaper to boot......

Check it out.

The HST is a good reel. Reviewed by the same site, the HSTA looks to be even better.

this year, my primary drift rod is sporting a tierra 153H. essentially the same reel as the HSTA without the swept handle(and it's blue instead of gray) and no bearings inside the knobs itself. about the same performance and benefits of the curado, but at about half the price.

Kyle,

You got one of those new Inshore Revo's yet ? They're looking like a serviceable unit ... Thanks for the heads up.

i checked one out today and they are the same size at the freshwater revos with a deeper spool. and at $229 i wont be buying one anytime soon.

140 of 12lb is way more then enough for anything i will ever fish for. i have never had a fish take more then half a spool of line anyway. and i never use more then 10lb for anything so im really getting about 160-170yds of 10lb.

but those offshore revos are some badass reels, but then again so are the other 3 models. just gotta decide if that carbonex drag washers are needed or not.

same with any reel i guess, the cheaper models usually work just fine, BUT then you get that one fish that rips you a new one and then you kick yourself for not getting the better model with the better drag and gears.
