Sorry Hohbomb but reread the orig post, the guy continued coming on even after he had been ___warned___that the guy was armed. I give the guy credit for not killing the dumbarse, really lucky guy. I just pack a 12 gauge when I am out and about. Gives me peace of mind. Sorry yourself. You miss my point. "Warning" someone that you are armed = "threatening" someone that you are armed, and is illegal. It's called "brandishing" when you "unconceal" your "concealed" weapon. If the dude's life was truly threatened, then he has the right to kill in self defence.

d) You are holding a chum in your avatar and posting on PP?
Yes, but at least it is respectfully and legally being held and photo'd while still in the water...

Like I said, "I may have done the same thing"...
What was done could constitute a threat. No one "defended himself", otherwise someone would have been shot.
If I was there, and felt my life was in danger, and was "packing" legally, I probably would have killed the guy with the knife. If not, I may have "brandished" my weapon in a threatening way and scared him off. Perhaps he would have stabbed me.
Only a judge/jury can determine how close the guy with a knife would have to get to constitute a "threat to my life". Sufice to say, if the guy with the knife is dead he may have a hard time convincing said judge/jury that he was NOT threatening my life. I believe in WA the law is written such that dude's life wasn't being threatened if he could have walked away and didn't...

Only a judge/jury can determine......
Enough said. My father was a long-time trail attorney in this state. I've heard more whacked-out jury stories than I can shake a stick at. Not too sure why I'd shake a stick, though. Trust me, the *last* thing you want is to be in front of a "jury of your peers" in this state. Seriously. Think about who really ends up on jury duty and makes it to a trial. Scary!

On a lighter note, down here in California you can only kill someone with a gun if:
a) They broke in your door, raped your family and pets
b) You are driving on any freeway in Los Angeles
c) You can prove the cops mishandled the evidence and framed you - and you'll hire your own investigators to get the real killers
d) Sorry, c above only applies to knives and OJ
Happy trails, Mike

Yes, being from Los Angeles and growing up around cops the first thing I did after getting my WA driver's license was get my CPL. You got a CPL because...????? a) You are from LA? b) You like cops? c) You dislike cops? d) You are holding a chum in your avatar and posting on PP? Oops sorry, there I go summarizing again but you forgot the rest of my post: "Seen too much stuff go down and to assume it won't happen to me is being stupid and unprepared." <---explaining my background and the reason why I got a CPL, it only makes sense considering where I used to live lol. When I moved to WA I was more than happy to finally be able to carry a gun for the reason of being prepared to protect myself or my family if/when the time occurs. The scenery might change, but criminals don't stop at the WA border. As for the cop question, to clarify I was raised mostly in my teens around cops, so I have a different view about carrying: that it's great, it's good, and you should always be prepared. Actually, I could care less about your issues with chums, here's a tissue...it's the only pic I have with a smile. Cool wit you?

My friend warned the guy that he was armed, but the guy continued walking toward him in an aggressive manner. My friend reached under his waders, pulled his revolver and pointed it at the guy. My friend does have a concealed pistol permit. I also have my concealed permit. I may have done the same thing, HOWEVER: What your friend did is illegal. It's called assault with a deadly weapon. If you have a CWP, then you are licensed to carry a CONCEALED weapon. The second it is not concealed, you had better be firing it in defense of your life, or you could go to jail. I have heard more than one story of a person being arrested under these conditions. Telling someone that you are "packing" is the same thing as a threat. ...Certainly not worth going to jail for "threatening" a tweaker! yeah i heard the same thing. as soon as your weapon is shown to the pubilc unless you are using it. even when its under a coat and your coat flaps open. if it is seen by someone and you are report as having a gun you 90% of the time will end up in jail if caught. even though you have a permit for it. ...that if in a public place. the same does not count when hunting, hiking, and fishing. sence you dont have to have a cwp to pack...you just cant conceal. unless you have a cwp.

Unintentional display or "printing" is not against the law. Intent is the key.
Had a gun and knife pulled on me in two stuations.
A guy pulled a knife on me when I was a restaurant manager, so I drew down on him (I had my P85 and the cops asked why I didn't shoot the guy at a range of 5 feet.). No charges filed against me, long story though. Later learned about the 21 foot rule in the academy. Kept my gun that night, as responding officers were regulars, knew I was not a dildo.
Had a gun pointed at me and two other deputies, we all drew and he dropped it. I was halfway through my trigger pull. As LEO, just had to fill out a buttload of paperwork.
Inadvertantly displayed as I walked into a local grocery store (shirt tail caught on pistol). Local officer pointed it out, checked CPL, "have a good day".
If you are not level headed, carrying isn't for you.

I just pack too many rods and lures. I have never felt the need to carry my gun when I go fishing. I figure I should be able to avoid any situation that would lead me to need a gun. My best defense is to listen to my gut and get out of there before something dangerous has a chance to develop.

Love the more remote trail heads in Alaska, spent summer of 2006 having some Kenai and Twenty mile fun and many other systems as well. We all meet up in downtown Anchorage 2 off my buds Moose and Bear guides they pull open the tailgate of the pickup and there is 5 or 6 over sized Cosco style plastic containers. First words out of there mouth is Choose your Candy I think the baby was a 454 C. He states anything under a 44 mag shoot first in the temple or under the chin not for the Bear for the Goofs they will soon be eating! lol I new this would be a fun adventure. Handguns I respect all and any but there could be a better example of angling. In a sled and drift boat the H-K 9 shot/heat shield 3 inch mags settles all and every game in town and there great can openers on Tubs as well! Great on passing waterfowl as well. Have 100's of Pictures of Bears some eating folks as well as climbing over boats but my crayon is dull as well as my ability to post pictures! LOL

I pack all the time for self defense purposes only. Don't pull it out unless you're going to use it. Walk away every time and defend yourself if needed.

I have my permit and carry whenever fishing or hiking - for bears, cougars, tweakers and (if in Eastern Washington) rattlesnakes. Only once have I pulled it - on a hike above highway 2 after hearing what my buddy and I believed to be an angry bear we must have disturbed. We never saw the bear, but because I was carrying and drew it we felt comfortable enough not to run which may have prevented a chase response.
