Playing basketball earlier tonight I got hit pretty hard right below my right eye, causing my skin to split open pretty good, a nice horizontal cut about an inch long...Pretty deep cut too....

Got it checked out 5 mins afterwards and instead of stitching it up, they put some strong glue right below and above the cut, and they closed the wound, and layed the tape (or some strips that adhered to the glue) over the glue and closed the wound. The strips are still there...

Anyone had this done? I have never heard of it and the EMT's who were fixing me up said it's a new thing...

Krazy Glue has been used for years for this purpose. The strips you describe sound like Steri-Strip Closures. They can be found at drug stores but not usually grocery stores. They work almost as well as stitches in "smaller" cuts that would "require" stitches.

Got any pics?

The substance (glue) could have been tincture of benzoin and is placed there to adhere the steri-strips to the skin. I often use a product called "NUSKIN" for smaller cuts (not typically used on lacerations that require sutures).

They did the same thing for my kid so I asked about using super glue on cuts if I was hiking or hunting away from help. The doctor said that as long as you could get it sterilized she thought was a pretty good idea.

Medical purposes or some stuff. I'm at college and our school has on duty EMT"s like 20 hours a day, that really don't do much other then help kids who get hurt playing sports or who need medical attention when they drink too much alcohol. If anything is too bad they transport us to the nearby hospital...

Since I was bleeding all over my shirt and it was dripping down my face the athletic center HAS to call them up and the athletic center makes me sign all sorts of stuff releasing them from liability....

I have used it a few times. I was messing around at the gym the other day and caught my heel on Chuck Norris' jaw. Nasty gash right in his beard, we glued it right up.

I superglued a 1.5" cut in my heel while in Belize a couple years ago. It definitely needed stitches but wasn't going to happen down there. Cleaned it and glued it up. Proceeded to wade the flats for another week with no problems.

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.
