So I know one of you guys knows the answer to this...
How long ago did netters stop using cedar floats?
I found this near the mouth of the Hoh yesterday in some back water.
I thought it was a pretty cool find.

Cool - I have some of those from the 1960's that my folks got for free when they were changing out to the foam/plastic floats. This was down at the Tacoma commecial fishing fleet area by Johnny's dock (when it used to be down on the Port of Tacoma). So I doubt they made too many more after that, but I'm sure people kept using them. Tribes probably longer since they seem to go with what they have rather than what the latest gear is. Junk turns into treasure with time...

A commercial fisherman (bristol bay) friend of mine just said probably WWII or before. It was still floating when I found it.
I'll admit it's not as cool as Vhawks rock.

Always cool to find a part of history, probably unearthed from the flooding this last couple of months.

Looks like it could also have a "second purpose." be careful you don't get splinters, Dave.

I thought it was "spanking the monkey" or "choking the chicken" or "throttling the clown" but "mulling it over" is a new one.

Well Dave, yet another topic of yours flushed down to the dark side.

I hope you've learned your lesson this time. objectifying common... uh... objects... is just wrong.

I have one that was carved into a Coast Salish style beaver head and painted. Bought for $5. in Duncan, VI, at their Saturday market.
