Before more posts of the above nature are offered, I feel a little obligated to share a few more details. If anyone accuses me of offering these details in an effort to show how far a few feet made it into their respective mouths, you'd be right. But its only half the motivation to elaborate.

First, my girlfriends pregnancy was not "my" mistake (or lack of precaution)

Second. I am not dreading the idea of being a "father"
Its a role I hadnt quite lived up to in the past due to divorce and I am eager for another chance. My age is the concern. My sacrifice of time/money/freedom/fishing is another. Although minor.

My "girlfriend" and I have known each other for about 2 months. Ive never believed in the idea that when the right two people meet: a spark can = blazing fire in short order. But since we've been "together" its become a reality. This is the gal for me and I am the man for her. No question (yet)

The truth is, I am not the paternal father of the child she is carrying. (boom)

But I am considering accepting the role of "dad" at her request.
I love kids. Children are my only connection to my own youth and I cant think of anything more "noble" to do than "man up" and accept this child as my own because in my mind, the return will be well worth the investment. This kid needs a father. Mom needs me too. And no, nothing is on paper and the paternal father will be listed on the birth cert.

Maybe some of you will understand my scotch-contemplation. The first half of the bottle would absolutely be celebratory.

The second half ?




I am happy to be in the position I am in. But I cant lie and say I dont feel like I just split a pair of 7s with a jack showing.

Hey, you know what? You're a big guy now, and you can do whatever you want. You have my best wishes, but in all fairness, two months is not a long time to get to know anyone, let alone sign off your life to. You are bucking some long, long odds.

I would seek legal counsel and learn my rights. you might be suprised what happens in the state of washington regarding children. even if they are not your's but you provide for them. my younger brother is paying child support on a kid that is not even his all because he was in her life just long enough. believe me your chips are not dwindling as you put it. i am 44 and went thru a divorce at 43. life is still good. still plenty of single women out there.

Hate to feed the lions, but in answer to your question: we met while she was dating someone else. We'll call him "Irie"
Shortly after she stopped seeing "Irie" because she found out Irie is married with 3 kids, she discovered she was pregnant. We had known each other three weeks by then.

Irie doesnt want his wife to know.

GF agreed not to say a word if Irie signed the birth cert. Which will assure the child support payments and most importantly, the child will have access to the truth about who its real father is (my suggestion)

Irie agreed in writing.

She didnt know he was married while they were seeing each other, BUT now that she does and sent him packin, shes agreed not to say a word to the wife if he steps up, takes a paternity test, and signs the birth cert.
Her behavior/offer isnt one of homewrecker.
Most women would be pounding on this guys door making SURE the wife knows. But nobody involved wants to add drama to an already sensitive issue.

This has been a fairly amicable and reasonable arrangement so far considering the circumstances. I can step aside at any time, but I really like this gal.

Congrats on being a grandpa. The rest is a little Springer-esque, but if everyone's happy more power to ya. I hope you guys put the feelings of the youngster first in any/all dramatic goings on.

Sounds to me like you've got a good head on your shoulders, have done the best in a strange situation, and are going into it with open eyes and an open heart...and with a little legal protection to boot.
