This may have been around for a while but thought it would important for you to see what is out there as far as the cougar population is concerned.

This trail camera is located in NE Washington and was set up by a WDFW biologist.

I wonder if our current reg.'s are enough to keep the cougar population in check? I also wonder if it is still a good idea to have a ban on hound hunting in this state.

Looking for a discussion is all!

Good reason to buy a tag. When I was in college I had a landlord who was quite a cougar hunter. He'd drive around in the snow until he found fresh tracks, then he'd track 'em down. He'd killed quite a few over the years and helped other people do the same, with photos to back it all up.

I live in the foothills just north of Enumclaw. I have see and heard a few cats in the area with no real problems. The one that I have seen most is collared. With grandkids coming over and running around I worry about their safety. Seems like we see more than we used too.

They are thick in the Colville area. A lot more than when we were kids. I am not one to demonize them and had one for a pet for years but their #'s are a little out of control over there. I have had a lot of friends that have lost pets in hte last few years. The number of calls on them is three times what it use to be and my buddies uncle runs the game departments hounds to track the problem animals. Seems like he is out every week.
The hound hunting should have never been taken away in the first place. The numbers were good and it was some dumba$$ letting his hounds rip that cat up after it fell out of the tree playing on TV that sealed our doom. Sad when the warden and biologists say it is a bad idea and the public does it anyway. This just goes to show that we need to fight harder on the issues when the bans come up because once it is gone it is tough to get back no matter how many pets get taken out of yards.

I think that hound hunting and baiting should never been put on the same ballot. Oh well, whats done is done. It's a shame that king and Pierce county can pretty much out vote the rest of the state. Cool pics and man would I love to walk up on something like that while out hunting, Cat backtraps on the grill for sure!

Captain,

I use to read allot of stuff on that web site. I had a custom longrange gun biult and just never got into it. I got into the fishing more and just never took the time to get shooting way out at things. Maybe someday. I just fish too much right now. I still hunt and shoot just not like before.
