The Oregon Hatchery Research Center will host a town hall meeting in Waldport today (Wednesday) to share information about several current and future salmon and steelhead research projects at the center near Alsea.

The session is scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m. in Room 3 at Waldport High School.

David Noakes, the center's senior scientist and Oregon State University professor, will discuss how the research projects relate to fish stocks and fishing. Noakes and representatives from the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife staff will answer questions.


Jointly operated by ODFW and Oregon State University, the Oregon Hatchery Research Center is an internationally recognized destination for fish research, which opened in October 2005. The $7.8-million facility was built with funds appropriated by the Oregon Legislature from Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board lottery funds and from the Fish Restoration and Enhancement license funds.
