why some people think bush is such a great president. food prices are shooting up, fuel has tripled in price, some stores are rationing rice and flour, the dollar is at an all time low, the national debt is at an all time high. would someone please tell why he is believed to be so great.

Keyword " some" If you look at his approval rating, it is pretty low. To say he is responsible for all you listed is moronic.

One only has to look as far as the political coverage by our renowned media. If the American people want to be so stupid as to let the media twist and turn the most important process in our democracy into a "reality show", then we're getting what we deserve.

Every time we have truly good candidates running for office, we chose the WORST examples from among them and send them to the Whitehouse. It's based on whoever the media decides to promote.

Because he is fighting the war on terror in Iraq.

It depends on if you are a Republican or a Democrat as to whom you blame.

Remember Jimmy Carter? Everybody blamed him. Even Democrats voted for Reagan.

Irie, Do you remember the Cole, the african emb bombings, the first world trade center, even somalia and more. We were attacked many times but did nothing about it. I am not a fan of the wars or how badly they were run but they have been hitting us for years and the only thing these people understand is force. You cant reason with people who blow up school buses full of children and markets full of women in the name of Alah. You cant reason with people who twist religion and use it for justification to kill. Send little children or mentally hadicap women strapped with bombs to crouded markets and blow them up by remote. They just understand nothing else and if the wars were never waged, they would still want o kill us and anyone else who does not think as they do. Bush has been an idiot but he has been tough and not hid under his desk at least.

Wow, so once every couple years or so attacks to daily attacks is a better deal....way to go Bush!!! And all this time I've been thinking of you as the most treasonest man to ever set foot in the Whitehouse.
You bring up the Cole, Somalia, embassy, don't forget the barracks attack which were all attacks on our troops. So having them killed on a daily basis is better...nice logic.

stlhead, what specificly would you have had the U.S.A. do about these attacks, rather than what has been done ? What exactly would you do about the current economic situation ?

First, there is no way to prove that the president is the reason we are or are not attacked. To say otherwise is foolish. Second, we actually were "attacked" after 9/11. Don't you remember the anthrax scare where people were scared to get their mail?

People always bring up the USS Cole. Obviously, it was a horrible incident but I always wondered why we feel we have the right to anchor up in places like Yemen. I'm not saying I'd drive my Zodiac into an Iranian war ship if it was anchored in Bellingham Bay but I sure as hell bet someone would give it a second thought. I think the same thing about Iraq. Even though I hate Bush, I'd happily take shots from my bedroom at foreign occupiers longing to give me "freedom".

Stlhead,
How long do we wait to respond? Lets put our head in the sand and say an attack ever few years is OK. How bad would it ahve to get before you responded. Yearly, monthly, weekly. Yes the management was crap but to say that the emb, cole, trade center, somalia and all were not enough to have to "try" to do something about it is stupid. What would have been you tipping point.......30 dead in a day not enough, 300 obviously not, not even 3000 in one day. Then when? Wait for 30,000 maybe. The pacifist attitude did not work when Clinton was in office and it got worse and worse. the Bush policies have not been run well but hiding under the desk and waiting for the next shoe to drop is not an option.
Kaiser,
Most reasonable people would not blow themselves up if a Chinese or iranian ship was in harbor to refuel. As far as fighting if being overrun, that is different......I saw Red Dawn in the day as well adn would do the same. The anthrax was home grown and that seems to be well known. In a country this big there will be some nuts. Okla city for example, home grown....but that is different for a what happen in the Cole, emb, WTC adn all the others. To aquate them to make a point is either dishonest or not understanding the difference.

The USS Cole was refueling in Yemen.

We've had to maintain a Naval presence in the Persian Gulf since the Iran hostage crisis. Iran and Iraq have threatened and/or shot at all sorts of different shipping traffic and threatened to invade the smaller ME countries. Saddam in fact did so.

If we don't patrol it and keep it safe, who will? Terror attacks on the smaller ME countries is a constant threat. They don't make it public, but we're there because they've ASKED for our presence.

And judging by the responses to the gas price thread, I doubt anyone here wants to see an oil supply disruption in the ME.

Docspud, Oregonian...it would have been nice if the response taken were "appropriate" but since it wasn't and we invaded and occupied a country that had no part in 9-11 it amounts to a war crime by the U.S. Paint it however you choose but we were wrong. Obviously you are both one of those who wanted blood regardless of who's responsible. Afghanistan was and should have been the target whereas Iraq was a huge blunder. Now both are a quagmire bleeding our country dry.

"What exactly would you do about the current economic situation ? "

Ironic...your question should be what would you have done to prevent the current situation. Your boy's failed policies have brought us to our knees.
But when you appoint unqualified former neighbors, pals and industry lobbyists who look the other way while outright scams are sinking the ship the common man, and the country, takes it in the shorts.

So basically, that is an acceptance that we are willing to trade a certain amount of tax dollars and American lives for a "reliable" source of oil?

Saying they "ASKED" for our help might be a little disingenuous. Generally, it is much closer to bribery. This isn't another "colilition of the willing" is it? Give us a billion and we are "willing" to help.

Also, I'm not Clinton-family lover but to act like Bill Clinton did nothing regarding the thread and previous acts isn't true either.

On another point, anyone saying that Afganistan was responsible for 9/11 should direct AT LEAST as much responsibility towards Saudi Arabia. They supply the people and money. Oh, but they are one of our allies.

I'm not sure if you think you changed the subject or what, but the question was asked, and is still awaiting an answer... You seem to think you are smarter than our leaders, I thought it would be an easy question for you...I didn't even ask if you thought you had a solution, I am just curious what your first move would be and why.

Yes. Enough studies have been done on the topic of the effects that another "oil emabrago" or other disruption in oil supplies would have on us and most of the world.

All presidents, R or D, have kept up a continuing Naval presence in the Persian Gulf largely due to the consequences that would result if they didn't.

The connection to the war in Iraq is probably along those same lines. Who can say? We were lied to, but it is entirely possible that Bush had few positive alternatives.

Bush had plenty of alternatives when it came to conducting the war, and he made mostly poor choices that cost lives and money and for that, I condemn him.

Further reading for those interested.
