I'm looking to buy those heavy wax covered boxes in the Seattle Erea. We need 6 for our trip to Alaska. We are hopeing to do some halibut and Ling fishing as well as catch abunch of steelhead. Does anybody have any info on where I can get some of them boxes.
And no we won't be killing any of them steelhead.

I know that they can be purchased at one of the several Central Market stores in the Seattle/Kitsap County area, or they can be purchased from any seafood market. Try City fish or University fish. Good Luck.-TBJ

If its any help, you can buy them anywhere in Alaska. Fred Meyer, Walmart, even Safeway. Also, be aware, Alaska Airlines is limiting luggage to one checked bag per flight, instead of two starting this June. Monster bummer for bringing fish home.

Kris, pack your oldest cloths and then donate them to a shelter before you head home. Then you get new ones and you might help someone in the process. Later, Bill

First time I went up north, I brought my own boxes. Was a hassle dragging them around, even empty. After that, I figured it wasn't worth the trouble so just bought them in Alaska. You can buy them most everywhere and get the gel packs too. airlines don't transport dry ice.

Course now I have 4 fishboxes in the basement.

Billyizme may be confusing plain 'ol ice and dry ice. I am 100% certain that at least as-of now Alaska/Horizon will allow you to fly with 5 lbs of dry ice, per person, in checked baggage.

If that news about ONE checked bag per person is true, starting in June, that is a complete DISASTER for parents (travelling with kids, car seats, etc). Not just fishermen. Seems CRAZY

oops, guess its changed since i last looked.

here's alaska airline's policy.

Dry Ice
Dry ice may be placed in carry-on and checked baggage subject to the following limitations: In all cases, the packaging must allow for the release of carbon dioxide gas. For carry-on baggage, each person may carry up to 4 pounds of dry ice. In checked baggage, the limit is 5 pounds per package. The package must be marked with the net weight of the dry ice or the statement that the net weight of dry ice is 5 pounds or less. The name of the contents being cooled, along with the words "Dry Ice" or "Carbon Dioxide, Solid" must be on the outside of the package.
