Nick and I head up to the Situk next Tuesday. I have heard no reports yet this year. Does anyone know how the run is?

I love it up there! Never been in the Spring but several times in Sept, have a blast and give us a report when you get back.

I ;\) .... clipped a couple last year about this time, nice to see them back.

Brings back some nice memories from that trip...lots of fish, looks like they homesteaded under the bridge for a fair portion of the trip, looks like abit less snow this year, good luck Mr. Vedder I'll look forward to the report.

I was there 4-23 to 4-28 fishing was slow compaired to the last 3 years. new fish were coming on afternoon tides and the lower 1/2 was decent. 4-26 it started to rain and fishing picked up a little 4-27 it was fast on the rise and fishing again was decent but 4-28 on the drop I was expecting lights out big numbers the last 4+ miles we saw maybe 8 fish and landed 3 the middle part of the drift was ok tons of spawning beds.

This year the numbers are way down but still better than anything we see here in WA. The pictures posted on the link look like all 9 mile bridge fishing shots and I'm sure some spring fish are up there with the water.

Well, just got home and the Steelhead are there although the main run is still at the mouth as the water temp is still cold. The lake is still frozen over but within a week or so it should be great as opposed to just good.
We had no trouble hooking fish all through the river both carry-overs and fresh hard fighting chromers.
We also took our new boat out and caught the first King on it and it was a dandy coming in at 40lbs.
Clients have been limiting on Halibut in about 70 feet of water so the new boat is working out great.

New boat

The first King (White King as well)

Typical Steelhead

Our chef did a great job on the King for dinner

Great looking river

View across the bay of the mountains

A little more bottom fishing

Another limit of Halibut from 70 feet of water-Leelock anchor guys

Typical Situk river habitat--gear grabbing river, but great for the fish

And the fisheries guy taking scale samples from the King--I think he needs bigger pants or sweatshirt! Bad way to end the day on the dock!!!

Oh, and Dave--
The same holes have fish in them, you will not have a problem on the river.
We did find more fish in the tail outs than last year and also in the "v's" along the log jambs. I busted off about 6 fish under those log jambs, but what a fight!
Hot lure for me this year,,The middle size orange trout bead on a number 1 hook with no yarn. Not sure why, but it outfished the pink worm and jigs, but it might have just been my mojo with that lure this weekend.
Keep Machelle on her toes and enjoy the new ocean boat, Sharesse is ready for you and your antics. She says she is not going to go easy on you this year!

Are you staying at the Glacier Bear? If you are, tell Sharesse(manager) you are on the PP board.
If you are not, stop by for dinner, great food and bar!

Good luck.

I have six copies of the magazine with the article on GBL I am bringing with me. Tell Shareese she ain’t seen nuthing yet. Bill was quiet and shy compared to Nick after a few beers. And I think I may relax and be a little less uptight this year.
Bill sent along his personal selection of drift lures. I guess I will have to give up the training wheels at least part of the time. I think we are all set for a fish fest.

Our biggest decision is do we want to skip a day of steelhead for a day of those big flatties.

You got to get out on the new boat and the skipper is a great guy. Both Flatties and bottom fish, he has the holes for both!
Get Sharesse to arrange an evening run for you so you don't miss out on the Steelhead, I am sure Erik would not mind, he loves it out there.

Here is the Skipper with some fine bottom fish

I don't have the pics yet but we were up there May 1-5 and the fish are late. We still were able to get quite a few to the bank including a 39"x20" beast on a jig & float. The last day we fished on the 5th the fish started to move in and we hooked between the two of us close to twenty fish. Dave, I think you are going to be there when all the fish are in and you should catch quite a few. The fish we landed this year were on average bigger than last year with about 6-8 over 35 inches for the two of us. Last year we hooked between the two of us about 30 per day with only 4-6 in the 35 inch range. Next year we are going two weeks later, but it is very difficult to hit the peak. This year I saw a lot of dissapointed faces because the fish were so late. We had to work a lot harder to get fish this year, but it was still an awesome trip. Those fish up there are good fighters.

I know. I'm thinking next May. I'll be talking to you later this summer or in early fall! Heck, maybe you can show me how to use a DickNite for a SnohoCoho this fall. ;\)

Buddy and I were there 4/27 thru 5/3. SH a little slow for there but still plenty of fish to catch. We were the first clients Erik took out on the new North River and I put first blood in the box, a 110# shooter. We limited the boat on the first trip as Erik the skipper knows his stuff! Great chow at GBL and huge menu selection. Pretty good week of weather for Alaska too. I shall return. Bill

Great to hear the feedback. Your Halibut pictures will be on the web site in a few days. That was a great way to start out the season and the new boat!
