I got a new Yamaha 15hp and used it all last summer on a little aluminum Lund and am wondering if it's due for a little tune-up or service? I used it a bit over the winter for blackmouth and it ran great, just a little slow starting and had to leave the choke pulled out for a bit.

Should it be taken in for a little service at a marina/shop? It's a 2-stroke model....
Thanks...

I wouldn't. Read the Yamaha manual. It details what should be done and when. I'd swap the plugs and lower unit oil and fire it up!

I'd skip the shop also. If it sits for a long period of time maybe some carb cleaning would be in order but if it's being used on a semi-regular basis I'd just follow Kaiser's advice.

Make sure the gas hasn't gone bad as well.

I keep Evinrude fuel stabilizer in my tanks and run the engines every once a month during winter for 5 to 8 minutes at the launch ramp. It keeps everything lubed up and carbs from getting gummed up, also I top off my tanks when not using boat much to keep moisture out of tanks. Change lower end oil every spring and check impeller clearance and grease every time I go out.

How do you check impeller clearance every time out?
