I had to make the decision to put down a real good friend. When you are an a$$hole and a finatic about hunting and fishing. You end up going by yourself a lot. Travis wasn't the best of a hunting dog but he sure was the best company in the blind. He lived 14 years and went hunting until he was 11. His remaining years he just hung out in retirement and still found a way into a picture or two. What a tuff old guy he was, blind, def, diabetic. Fought it the whole way until he just couldnt get up anymore. Cryin rivers today.

Sorry to hear, J7. Watching my dog physically decline is a sad thing. You just have to know that you provided a great life for him and he had better times than most. Hang in there.

Having lost close family members in tragic accidents, I tend not to well up over animals much anymore.
I have in the past rained down tears as I shovelled holes for good dogs that were companions and a 16 year old one eyed ranch cat that flat out broke my heart when he kicked the bucket.
The pain is real when you lose a friend, either animal or human.
Sorry for your loss...
Sal

Tough to lose a good hunting dog. I put mine down last summer for the same reason (couldn't get up) and I'm just warming to the idea of a replacement. Focus on the good times.

Sorry to hear of your losses guys, its never easy and it sucks they have such short lives. Maybe that is why they show such unconditional love. Miss my buds every day even though I have two others. Remember the great days .. .. . .
