I went to Snow Creek yesterday afternoon and did alittle bottom fishing. Woke up at 4 this morning with announcements for people with boats to get down to the dock. This can't be good.
I arrived to the dock to find coast guard, firemen, neah bay police all watching as boats are going every which way and the dock all broke up. A couple boats were destroyed in the surf in front but mine floated west and into the rocks and eventually sank. A few more boats were damaged but saved.
There wasn't much I could do so I came home with an empty trailer and bought a bottle of crown for my memorial service.
If your going there in the next couple days, you should call and see if the dock is repaired.

P.S. Nobody was hurt

Insured?

Definitely have to get you on board the F/V eyeFISH more often until you find a suitable replacement.

A few more details.

The damage was done by somekind of rogue waves. The staff at the resort were very helpful and did there best to keep people safe and assist with efforts to rescue boats. Also alot of fellow fishermen and divers helped each other out.

Damn! WTF happened? Glad to hear that no one was hurt...I hope that the losses were insured.

Check with the owner of the dock...if you were paying to moor there, they might be on the hook for insurance...

Fish on...

Todd

That sucks man. Glad you are ok but sorry about the boat.
Better it would have happened in October rather than the beginning of the boating season.

Sorry to hear of your loss, I would be very sorry to lose my boat, especially with all the gear we have these days.

Hope it all turns out okay for you.

Here is a copy of an e-mail that I got from a friend who is up there right now...Jack

Sad to say last night we had what the Coast Guard thinks was a tsunami that hit
Snow Creek early (1:30am) Friday morning. A earthquake hit California earlier in
the evening The dock went vertical several times
and several boats went either upside down or on the rocks.
One guy had his Alumaweld cut lose and sunk at Wada Island, one guys Searay got
stuck on the rocks and several other boats got busted up. Needless to say I did
not launch the boat and we are working on repairing the docks Saturday morning.
Spent the day shuttling boats to and from Neah Bay. I hope to get some pictures
of this mess..

Dude that is rough! Make sure that your insurance knows you were paying for moorage, as the owner may have some responsibility, if they only pick up your deductable. Can't imagine how I would feel, just be thankful your boat rode that wave alone and not with you and your loved ones aboard.
