I am interested in buying supplies for rod building. If you are getting out of the rod building game and would like to sell your equipment/supplies please let me know. I have a Pacific Bay power rod wrapper/dryer but not much else. I am looking for thread, epoxy, tools and anything else needed to build a rod. Thank you

Tip: If you're stocking up, buy the A diameter thread (the thinner one). It's good for fly, salmon and steelhead sized guides, and gives a nicer finish. Also, buy thread labeled "NCP". It's precoated with a color preserver so the colors don't run when the Flex-coat goes on. Photo film containers are great for mixing.

i don't like NCP thread for a lot of things -- it's completely opaque so you get zero depth to the color, it just looks like paint when epoxy is applied.

with any good thread, the colors don't run, but it goes translucent so it's a good idea to experiment with color choices. a nice trick is to apply one coat of color preserver, so it doesn't completely saturate the thread, then apply the finish, you can get some real depth to the thread color that way.

I second the color preserver. Or metallic threads

Buy fresh finish to apply on threads!!! I personally like two coats of Lite but one coat of High build does the job and all brands are about the same like flex coat, U40 etc. Really all you need after the finish is a razor, Popsicles stick, epoxy i use rod bond to glue seats and handles, throw away brushes, mixing cups, tape, tip top glue and a cork reamer, we sell one you can chuck into a drill called Dream Reamer. All of these products can be bought from any rod building supply house and most of it you can find laying around the house. Drop me a line if you have any question.
