wondering about fishing Neah Bay in June. Where and how would one fish that time of year out there? I've never been there but i used to fish at Seiku out of a rental boat, mooching cutplugs. I have a 20' sled that I would be wanting to use, I know it would have to be nice weather but I'm mostly wondering how far from the launch the fishing will be. Seems like every year I get less and less interested in fishing the Sky, just looking for something else.

We fish inside of Tatoosh in a 15' Arima and will be up in mid-June. When they opened it in June a few years ago, we did pretty well. Nothing big, but lots of teeners. Just fish along the shore between Wadaah Island and Tatoosh.

It's not far from the ramp and is usually easy water, but it can turn on a dime, so you have to be willing to scoot back. It's only a couple of miles from Tatoosh back to the launch.

A lot of people head out into the ocean. You can go anywhere from a few miles out to 15 miles out. With a 20' sled, it's just a matter of how far you want to go. But, I've never missed out on catching kings staying inside. Some years we have to work pretty hard to get fish, but usually we have our fish in a few hours.

I've gone outside in my 18' Seaswirl 3 times in 10 years. Plenty of fish inside. I have a deep V so it takes the bumps pretty god, so your sled will take a beaing, comparatively. Can be done outside, on the right day, but I see no reason to risk it until I get a bigger boat.

Hey..new secret..you can launch at Makah Bay north of the campground in a little slough.from the beach in a lighter boat..dont know if it is legal..but takes lots of time and gas from running around the point..excellent bottom fishing is within 5 minutes. gonna do it again next time i go.

You can catch Kings along the kelpbeds on Waada Island(sp?) which is only a few minutes from the harbor. Mushroom Rock is a favorite inside area just before you get to Tatoosh.

If you go outside, Skagway is right around the corner of Cape Flattery.

Watch the wind and the tides and if you are fishing close to the rocks, keep your motor running in case you need to make a sudden move from an unexpected wave.

It can be completely flat outside or very nasty and you may not be able to judge the conditions as you run out as it can be rough inside and calm outside depending on the thermal exchange.

If there is a strong wind blowing into the Straits or SWesterly, it is better to fish close.

any info on what's available in the area for tent campgrounds? looking for more of a woodsy, family area than an open grass field R.V. spot.
Thanks for the info!

I've fished Neah Bay out of a 14' boat the past 5 yrs - you'll have a ton of great fishing available to you. The Cape motel and campground is close to the marina and has a good grassy/shady campground behind it. Explore your way along the shore all the way from Waddah to Tatoosh.

Dont leave your beer cooler outside if you decide to camp in town unless you want to donate it to some of the local teenagers.-T

You'll be able to catch lots of sea-bass and what not right out side around whadda island. If it get's nasty stay in close by seal/sail rocks and you'll be fine.If it's calm slowly work your way out to tatoosh island.Good luck,
