Spent the weekend scouting blacktails.

Thomas' friend greeted us at the gate...

With 35 days till archery season, the local bucks are showing a lot of their development.
Looks like the dry spring here might have an effect on antler growth.

Took these shots this morning...

Gonna put on the fish fry tonight with these lil bows that we caught yesterday.

Shaped up to be a nice weekend....

Getting close in the offseason is a good primer for the upcoming archery season which is just a month away for me.

It takes a seasoned pro to sneak this close to the very elusive blacktail jackelope.....

blacktails are cool, so are those ones wink I will look forward to some dead shots in the near future. thumbs

I did see one decent 3 point BT buck up on POW the other day....I can see why those deer get a chance to grow horns in that brush patch up there, it's like OP brush on steriods, lots of deer hoppin' around, we had to shoo a pair of fawns off of the road on the way to the boat coming home the other day and I made a good connection with one of robbos buddies to hunt this fall, may just have to make that one happen, he's got the #13 B/C buck on his wall and fills his punchcard regularly.

nice pics

Great pictures as usual. Sure hope someone doesn't drop a cigarette but in that area. Looks like it would go up in a second. That last buck looks a little skinny.

So far both Thomas and myself had had close calls with big bucks.

I missed this one due to a deflected arrow.

Thomas had this buck at 40 yards, but he would not turn to give him a shot then suddenley got his wind, bolting out of the country.

This morning was no exception.

I had this one at 30 yards in his bed
.

As I drew my bow the buck busted me and exploded from his bed in the dry oatgrass leaving me with a racing heart and weak knees.
Bowhunting can be so frustrating, everything has to be just right.
Makes rifle hunting seem like cheating.

There is plenty of time left.
Late September will bring rutting action and the big boys make mistakes.
I'll keep you posted.

That is a nice damn black tail. I start the big hunt on September 8th. I just got tired of trying to hunt this state. I like the Idaho deer and the elk. I can hunt both at the same time and in a lot of areas too. Best part. If I dont fill my archery tag, theyll let you hunt rifle in alot of areas also. I havent used the rifle season but once. But nice to know that it is there.
