Am looking @ getting one of the 3113 blanks that Sage offers. I am looking to set it up as a float rod and also as an occasional drift/spinning. Has anyone had there hands on the 3113m CT or the 3113m CP? They say that they are rated for different lines and lure wt capacities but are these actually the same blank ? Any info would be greatly appreciated wint

I dont know what they cost, but its not necessary to spend several hundred on a float rod. 10.5 is about as short as I like for float rods. Normal float style rods are medium action as opposed to a fast tip for drift fishing. My first float rod was suppose to be dual purpose and it was a terrible drift rod. I also decided that baitcasters suck for float rods. Too many variable conditions. For one, standing on a bank in the trees with a long rod gives you no room to load the rod. A lot depends on how far you want to throw and how much weight. I use more weight for deep and turbid waters and longer casts. Also the fixed vs slider bobber. Then braid vs. mono. Big jigs vs. small jigs or eggs. Eggs weigh a lot, but a fast tip will throw the eggs off during the cast. In summer, I knew a guy on the green who used a noodle and 2# test line in the headwaters, (now closed) I have a noodle spinner, but Ive lost more fish on that rod than any other. They dont have the backbone.

I have been using a Sage GHS 3113 MB for some time and love it. I don't know if it's exactly like those with the model # you posted or not though. I got these blanks from Berrys Bait up by Vancouver a few years ago. They are dark brown in color. 11'3'' long. They have sort of a fly rod action. it really works well for landing silvers when using small hooks like on dick nites. Do you have a link that shows the rod you are looking at?

You can get all the specs thru http://www.sageflyfish.com/dyn_prodlist.php?k=85157 the rods are green in color. I was looking for one of the older 3113's and also a 4106 but they seem to be rare. The length matches perfect i think for the travel fishing i do ( Wash, Ak and B.C) I have a couple of float rods from 12' to 14' but what they lack is backbone. Fishing mainly here in Michigan I am looking for something with enuff power to stop Log Jam Summers and Early Kings. I also wanted to be able to use it on some of our bigger rivers ( Big Manistee , Muskegon, The Grand and the St. Joe) for a high water drift rod. I am willing to shell out a couple more bucks to have a rod with backbone and also alot of sensitivity for drift fishing.

Yes,that looks like the new version of the old brown GHS 3113M. That has been a very popular centerpin rod for salmon and steelhead in BC. Until recently you had to get these in Canada. I made two 3113's into casting rods and mainly use them for tossing small spinners and spoons, like Dick Nites, to silvers. The slow action is extremely forgiving when playing salmon on very small hooks. On fish over 20lbs I seem to have about 50/50 chance of beaching them but that's more due to the 10lb mainline,8lb leader and small hooks than the capability of the rod. It does have decent backbone in the butt section. On the rating of this rod I think it's a stretch to go as high as 20lb test and 1oz but Sage are the experts so whatever they say. I can't comment on the sensitivity for drift fishing because I have never actually used this rod for drift fishing. I do think the slow action would make it not so great for drift fishing. You might try posting on the fishBC or anglinBC about this rod becuase there are a lot of long time users in BC . Edit-Forgot to mention the action of this rod makes casting light gear a dream.

http://www.stcroixrods.com/rods/default2.asp?rodname=44§ion=spinThey have a Wild River 10.5 foot 8-20 line rated rod, that has backbone. Its a reference point . You will be better off with two rods, not a mutlpurpose rod.

You can build them yourself for a lot less than $400-600. My 3113 cost around $180 and a few hours of work that I enjoy doing anyway. That was a few years ago. I haven't priced Sage blanks lately and lamiglas does make some nice rods so overall, I agree with you. I do very much like the fly rod type slow action for what I use the 3113 for and don't know of any other manufacturers that make a rod like this.

The new 3113's are $265.00 from Sage. I ordered one today. I also am going to pick up the Lamiglas in 11' and give it a whirl. For the money you can't beat it.. Thanks for the insite you guy's shared with me. wint
