Thursday is what I heard from friends on the coast but looking at the weather forecast I think angler effort may be minimal. Good Luck.-TBJ

I was just told by a reliable source that the decision on the date of the opener will not be made till the end of the week.

good to see there's been lots of improvement in halibut management and creel checks since i've left. grin

seems to me the best way to do it would be to man up, admit you suck at counting fish, and do what some cell phone companies do, and do rollover pounds. stop dicking around with random days and just roll over the poundage into the next year. it's one thing to try to get an extra day in june or even late-may (with the short seasons) but i would wager the poundage would be of more value next may than this july. of course, this would work in reverse too, if you go over the next year has those pounds taken out. seems like it might add a tiny bit more stability into the seasons.

of course, there's probably some valid reason you couldn't possibly do this from the wdfw perspective.
