I picked up a couple Pro Releases at Outdoor a couple weeks ago and have been messing around with one. Now I'm drawing a blank on how tight I should set them. I would think you want it fairly tight to assist in setting the hook.

Any thoughts on how many pounds to set it at?

Depends on depth. Trial and error, my friend, trial and error. Just like life.

I'm thinking 60 to 120' deep.

braided requires you to set the release with more tension. depending on depth and what you are dragging,(I pull hot spot flashers) you will need to adjust for conditions. Oddly towards thew end of my day, the tighter you need to adjust them. Depends on rod stiffness also. longer rod with fast tip works better with braid on downriggers in my opinion.

And keep a little alcohol wipe handy for cleaning the bait oil off the pads - it will inevitable get there and cause premature releases.

OceanSun has that right with the alcohol. I keep some paper towels and a bottle of isopropol near the riggers.

True for the Scotty's but not an issue for me with the Pro Release.
