From the Wauna powerlines downstream, sports anglers will be allowed to keep legal-size fish Thursday to Saturday, July 17-19 and July 26-27.

The minimum size is 45 inches, maximum 60. Catch-and-release fishing is allowed during non-retention days.

In other Columbia River updates, sockeye numbers at Bonneville Dam through July 1 were 193,707 fish, according to a state report. The run has been upgraded to 230,000 sockeye. The record is 237,723 fish in 1955. The pre-season forecast was 75,600.

Summer chinook counts at Bonneville Dam were 32,854 adults ......

Columbia: Boat anglers averaged half a steelhead and jack salmon per rod while bank anglers averaged one per every 4.6 rods during the first six days of July, said a state report. The shad counts continue to fall, and so does the effort. A report said seven boats and 44 bank anglers were counted during a Saturday flight. Through Sunday, a little more than 2 million shad had been counted at Bonneville Dam compared to 2.5 million last year.

Chelan: Trolling early and late is producing trout along Minneapolis Beach and by the Yacht Club, said Anton Jones of Darrell and Dad’s Family Guide Service. Jones said they trolled at Mack Bar with T-4 Purple Glow flatfish at 1.6 mph.

Kapowsin: Perch, crappie and bluegill action has picked up as the water has warmed, said Harry Erickson. Anglers have been landing some bass weighing 5 pounds. Trout fishing has been fair.
