Despite triple-digit temperatures, opening weekend a worthwhile outing with whoppers there for the taking

As anticipated, the summer-run salmon season opener here in Wenatchee area was "soft." Very few summer-runs were boated by the flotilla of boats that blanketed the Columbia River on the morning of July 1. Few anglers even tried fishing at Wells Dam, and there was a rumor of one king landed at Brewster. I traveled to Wanapum Dam for opening day and salmon fishing success at this particular spot made it worth the trip.
