Fished Jeff head for a couple hours this morning with my friend Bill, sciguy. A few others there too! Keep an eye out for your fellow boaters.... Saw a couple of really close calls/near collisions....
Hit one native about 12-15#, and a keeper hen about 10#. Hooked another bigger one down south, but it didn't stay stuck... All the fish came from 80-100' on the riggers.
Heard some good reports and some bad ones. I wouldn't say it's red hot, but fair to mid'lin. There are definately fish around. Crap, I have to go to work now.
Cheers,
Neal

BIL is out, 2 takedowns, two fish, one clipped 14# hen (bonk), one wild 10# buck back in the drink. He's been out since 5 am. Much slower than last year.

Fished Appletree and the Jeff Head area from 5:30-10:00. Finished a solid 0-0.

Anyone from this site out there in that 18' cc Grady? Just curious. I've seen it on the water a few times and wanted to know if it's a PP member.

Probably D3 Smartie on the Grady. Was he a tall lanky younger guy (25-30)?

Talked to my brother, they got one keeper king, one small coho, released a wild fish and a couple of smaller barely legal hatchery fish. Also lost a line screamer, he said that one hurt. We'll be out tonight and tomorrow morning to give it a shot.

For a neg 1.6 tide, what a great morning!

Two of us on board and we kept a 20 and a 10.

Where did all the wild silvers come from? C&R's four of those.

Blackmouth were around like crazy too, C&R'd 5 of those. Three were keeper size, but I think we are better off filling our quota with adult returners.

Heading back out this afternoon...

Fished from 04:30 to 11:30 and ended up with two mid teeners and one other at 9 lbs.

Released two nates, one over 20.

Team seastrike was still afloat when we pulled out thumbs

I'll be out there tonight, good luck .

We got blanked but there were no $$$ incidents.
Tom Carroll did well with 3.
Addicted had a coho but no nookie at 1.
I'll be back out tomorrow night.

Fished PNP. No Kings, but 2 silvers on green splatter back hoochies. Hooked and landed 8 total silvers with 6 wild fish.

Only saw two nets come out for kings.

Sleddder, CanyonMan, and Parker got 3 mini-halibuts and no real fish. We left that quota unchanged.

We did manage to get 5 keeper crabs, though. My in-laws are thanking Sleddder for donating his share to "the cause".

Got an eight o clock phone call from two friends mooching off the light house at PNP in 85 feet of water. They had 2 keeper kings at 17# and 22#. I have not talked to them again to see how they did after that. -T B J

Fished off Jeff Head from 6 to 11. Two lines in the water, one hit, one hookup, and one 15 lb keeper in the box. We tried mooching for a while but good numbers of dogs stopped that.

i blanked from 1:00 Am to 11:00 AM at J H. Seems like most were being caught at around 80 feet on the DR. I dont think the moon (almost full) and tide helped today at all. I was the guy with the 3 orange buckets behind the Capris

hit possesion from 5 to 9, couple of shakers and 2 silvers. I hit one silver about 6lbs at 6am and the other about 9. I would of cut the second one loose but he was bleedin' bad. Saw one other fish caught, looked like a little silver. I will hit it again tommorow looking for a king.
I also dropped 2 pots near columbia beach, full of nice salmon carcasses, chicken legs and old herring. Went to pull them on my way home and they were chock full of crab, I was grunting just to pull them up. The sad part is they were mostly males exactly 6 inches across. One keeper in the bunch. Wish we could get a shot before the commercials just one time and let them pull pots full of barely sub legal crab.

Two friends of mine fishing on MidChannel Bank in PT each ended up with a keeper, releasing several wild fish each. Both said their keepers were 10-12 lbs. and wild fish were all teeners. Nothing big... And, a lot slower than last year.

Launched out of Ballard and headed over to JH for a bit. It was pretty slow so we scooted over to Kingston. Still nothing going on, so we kicked over to PnP. Decent bite there that was off and on so it kept us interested. I was only able to pick up a couple silvers though . There are fish to be had...

Looks like mixed results out there today. My plans went into the toilet when my wife had to have some minor surgery yesterday. I elected to take care of her today rather then my original plan to fish this eve, then in the morning.

I am off to Tofino for the weekend. Then on to Alberta at the end of the week so I may miss the whole thing this year.

We went 3-6 yesterday with two kingers and a coho yesterday after hammering the water all day. We also missed a couple big takedowns that didn't get hooked.

All the fish came on gear trolled deep, 90-120 on the wire. Ace hi Flys and straight cut plugs seemed to work best.

Here's a shot I took of of Tommy Jr. of the Carrol Clan and one of their keepers:

What a boot...

This morning FishRanger went 3-? with Two coho and a nice clipped teener kinger.

Over the last two days out of the 30(ish) some fish weighed at Shilshole, Tom's boat and ours has 11 of them..

We headed out of Shilshole today by gps, low vis. on the way back over to the West side.

Slow for us today, one silver for six hours.

New game plan for tomorrow.

Good luck out there in the a.m., 03:30 at the home launch.

we hit the opener, released 1 wild king around 5lbs, couple shakers, bunch of mini-halibut, dogfish, and a scallop. trolled the west bar, mooched pnp, trolled pilot point til 1:30. no keepers except 5 crab. lost what was probably a nice fish in the "fag show" on the west bar. some jackass swung in behind us and got all his junk tangled up in my outdrive--bye-bye fish. overheard 2 guys fighting about who's fault their boat collision was. dude in alumaweld :"I'm very sorry your boat got hit, but we were not under power, and we were fighting a fish" fat old guy with shirt off and too much back hair: "huh?"

better luck next time (tide)

TJC,

I think we left the ramp right in front of you, also GPS to President Point, stopped to fish when we could see about 50 yards. A few minutes after we got our gear in the water we came to bait on the surface and birds. made a pass through and had an immediate double header , silvers, lost one and kept one, a second pass was a repeat. With two silvers we went deep to try for kings but not a hit the rest of the morning. Called it a day a 9 AM.

A question for you experts out there... what are those small jumping fish travelling in schools? I have heard juvenille salmon or sardines????

Any recent reports from PNP or Kingston?

Day 4 report without many details as fishing is TOUGH...we landed the biggest king brought into shilshole today along with a chipped white king and a nice silver for july...5 kings for 30 boats when we took out and all pretty small so we felt good about our day. IMO the fish are still north and west...when they show it will be lights out but right now it is tough having to scratch all day for a few fish. 18 lb/12lb Kings and 5lb silver today...cheers

I took my friends 15 year old sister and her 7 year old niece to JH last night and fished with my new favorite hootchie and the 15 year old caught a very nice 18 lber for her 1st salmon...it was a blast to watch her reel it in. She had a hard time but we got the fish....

Tough fishing lame its funny how they get hard to catch when the season opens. We had 3 fish in the 10-18lb range this morning between 6:30 and 8:00. I thought maybe we were on to something banana But then trolled for 4 more hours for 1 shaker. Their is a large variety of Forage fish in the Sound rite now. I have found large 6-8" Herring, small 4" Anchovie, and small 2-3" Candlefish. From what I have found in fish the majority of the bait in the north part of the Sound is small Anchovie and candlefish. The fish and heavy bait have been deep for me, 100-220' zones.

Matt

I forgot to add that one of the fish we caught this morning had 3 small bird feathers in its stomach eek2

Hit the west side of possesion the last 2 days. no fish and very few take downs. Didn't see any fish caught today and the water got a little sloopy as the day went on. Called it quits around 10am (4am start) will try again tommorow...
Give me a call on the vhf, channel 68 if you have any big time news or help. Just holler up the "Dawgfish"

Fished East side of possession for five hours on opening caught only 3 flounders & shakers. WTF only saw one fish caught. Thinking about going to Elliot Bay but will give it another try again up here on Sunday. Somethings gotta give.

Hit Jeff head this morning 4:45am to 10:15am. We had one fish on and it was a hog. My buddy said it was one of the most powerful fish he's had. Played it for about 10 min, took five big runs, had to chase it down to avoid getting spooled. Unfortunately its last big run was shallow right at another boat, we were yelling and waving to get them to get out of the way so we could stay on top of it. But they took too long to get organized and we got tangled in their gear and the fish busted off. frown

The real bummer was we weren't even in a crowd. Only two other boats even remotely close to us and the fish has to make a bee-line toward one of them frown. Pretty dissappointing end to an exiciting battle.

Otherwise seemed pretty slow out there, fish checker had one fish for 26 boats when we took out.
