Attached is her letter to Washington Commissioner Gutzwiler. In addition, she's calling for an economic summary of the sportfishing and commercial fisheries.

Here is the link:

I normally do not post links to other sites however this is an exception.

Bottom line is this is the first time any politician of her stature has addressed this issue. It's long overdue. I don't care if she is doing it because the devil offered her money to support her crack habit. This discussion is long overdue and I for one am glad to see the issue brought up.

I see this as a big deal. I wonder why there are so few comments?

Does this actually mean the WDFW Director will have get off his ass and come up with SELECTIVE commercial fisheries and allow more SELECTIVE sports fisheries, and also stop negotiating away fish to tribes? Sorry to be a pessimist, I will only believe it when I see it.

Hell she did not win the first, second or third time. if you think that someone that is that deep in the pockets of the tribes is doing anything but lip service to get elected I have a bridge to sell you, but you cant fish from it just gamble.

Dave, I think no one is commenting because of so long a time we are all used to the pat on the back and then business as usual. If she is for real on this, its the biggest break sportmen and women have ever got in this state. Maybe the handwriting is on the wall now and even the politicians can see it. At long last maybe we get really heard for the first time. Yup, its a big thing for sure.

Hmmm - if she was doing it to get elected, I'm guessing she would keep her mouth shut about specifics as the Commercials have the most to lose (and the biggest advertising $$$ to support Dino if they actually feel threatened) if she's serious. She's already allocated $$$ for Hood Canal and Sound cleanup, and the word I hear is that she's serious about the Selective Fisheries thing as well.

Someone else said it - as with all things political - - - only time will tell.

Brian,

That depends on the competition, she needs to polarize and organize the strongest support she can. If her opponent Dino already has the commercial then she goes after what's left and needs to create that unity.

The "Salmon & Yoga Political Party," fully supports the Governor on this one. It's a wise and much needed action. thumbs

Dicks has long been a strong supporter of sport fishing, but he has little clout with the sate commissioners. He's also a good guy. I have had the chance to sit and have a beer with him and talk fishing. He knows the topic well.

If this has been discussed by a politician as high ranking as the governor I missed it.

This is where commercial fishing needs to go and I am grateful to any politician discussing it. Who knows what if any action we will get, but I favor our chances more when the governor is talking about it then when she is not. Like it or not commercial fishing is not going away as long as there are fish. We need to move toward selective harvest. I see this discussion as a positive steop in that direction.

We need to try to look past party affilliation and look at who can do us the most good. Dicks is a dem and a sport fishers friend. Yet another dem is state senator is one of our worst enemies. I would support Gregoie or Rossi in a heart beat if they could convinvce me they were willing to work hard to bring about selective commercial harvest. i couldn't care less which party bring us what we need, as long as someone does the job.

Those who ask the Governor to “do something” about Indian fishing simply don’t understand the history of the issue. I would love to hear what that “something” would be.

New Entry into Chemistry's Periodic Table of Earth Elements

Recent research has led to the discovery of the heaviest element yet known to science.
The new element, Governmentium (Gv), has one neutron,25 assistant neutrons, 88 deputy neutrons, and 198 assistant deputy neutrons, giving it an atomic mass of 312.

These 312 particles are held together by forces called morons, which are surrounded by vast quantities of lepton-like particles called peons. Since Governmentium has no electrons, it is inert; however, it can be detected, because it impedes every action with which it comes into contact.

A minute amount of Governmentium can cause a reaction that would normally take less than a second to require from four days to four years tocomplete. Governmentium has a normal half-life of 2-6 years; it does not decay, but instead will undergo a reorganization in which a portion of the assistant neutrons and deputy neutrons exchange places.

In fact, Governmentium's mass will actually increase over time, since each reorganization will cause more morons to become neutrons, forming isodopes.

This characteristic of moron promotion leads some scientists to believe that Governmentium is formed whenever morons reach a critical concentration. This hypothetical quantity is referred to as critical morass. When catalyzed with money, Governmentium becomes Administratium, another element that radiates just as much energy as Governmentium, since it has half as many peons, but twice as many morons.

Obviously she is seriuos, she has been trying to remove certain bad eggs from the commision and has been an advocate for sports Fishing. If Rossi is elected we will all be f***** as sportsfisherman, he is bought and paid for by the commercials, besides being a total Jackass !!!

Peace

Martin indicated there are observers who look at each commercial catch. This does not happen for anglers. On average, the commercials kept 3.64 fish for every fish released. In contrast, the sports fishermen are averaging 6.24 kept fish for every one released. The ratio in Bonneville was 4.0, and in Idaho it was 4.1. It is possible the number of fish released could be dramatically under reported. Martin suggested that instead of catching the 19,000 fish they caught, the recreational fishery should have only been catching 11,000 to 12,000 fish. The agencies are trying to figure out a scientific reason for why there is a difference of almost double the amount of fish that are kept for every one released on the lower Columbia, in comparison to the commercial fisheries and the fisheries in Bonneville and Idaho.

Again, Martin asked the County Commissioner to work with other counties, ports, and communities who have been affected by this spring Chinook season on the lower Columbia.

Commissioner Cothren asked if Kent Martin has talked to Dino Rossi's office because he seems interested in this issue. Cothren recommended Martin talk to the Rossi campaign because the sports fishing lobbyists have contacted him and are lobbying him. Rossi's staff indicated that Cothren was the only person, to date, to contact them to discuss the importance of the commercial fishery. Rossi's campaign staff also suggested that the Fish and Wildlife Commission should have a member with a commercial fishing background. Martin indicated that if a member could be found who has no conflict of interest, it would be appropriate. Cothren indicated that Rossi was interested in meeting with the commercial fishery. Martin noted he would be gone from June 5 to July 24, but he was willing to talk to Rossi when he returns. See entire meeting minutes here

You sure you want Dino Rossi in charge of appointing new Commissioners?

Gregoire has only appointed those who have either a sportfishing or conservation background, or both...the last two commercial hacks we've had on the Commission were disastrous for us, the fish, and the fishing...we've only just now got rid of them and are getting rid of the effects of them being there...

Fish on...

Todd: "You sure you want Dino Rossi in charge of appointing new Commissioners?"

I do not know for whom I will vote; however, just because Rossi is willing to speak with the Commercial Fishermen does not rule him out in my book.
After all, we still have the same person as head of WDFW as we had when the Lady Governess stole the last election.

Being "willing to speak" with commercials is not the same as "thinks there should be a commercial fisherman on the commission"...

If you have a bunch of reasons why you think Rossi would be a better Governor, than by all means you should vote for him...but if you think it is because Rossi will be better for fish and fishing, then you are fooling yourself, considerably, too...and with Rossi in the pockets of the commercials, you don't really think that he'd make any effort to get rid of the current Director, who has been the commercial industry's wet dream, do you?

Fish on...

So far the Governor has been very good on environmental issues. She has followed through on a lot of the things she has championed and I hope she follows through on this one. Rossi does not believe in climate change which is the largest environmental issue facing us all so how can we expect him to care about our fisheries.

I think she took a lot of her ideas from the CCA's positions letter. Which she had received a few weeks before she issued her letter.

Maybe Rossi could mix it up and put a developer on the commission.
