I got a call around 10:00 and was rounding up a few gas cans and preparing to pick up a cold wet Dave from someones yard in Port Madison. When I heard vessel assist was coming I went to bed. Dave I saw that you called at 1:55 this morning. I hope it was just to say that you made it home safe. Glad you made it out of that fairly unscathed. -Tom

Am I the only person not surprised by this?

If anyone is going to run out of gas out in the Sound, my first vote would always go out to Seastuck.

Did you lose a kicker motor this time, drop a baggie, break any rods, or swamp any cell phones?

No?

You got off lucky!

As crummy as that must have been to endure, hopefully it is your one big #$$#up of the season. I was there last year when you got to Seiku and had left your boat keys at home and you got through that one ok too. Now that you got that out of the way you can go forth and slayeth some salmon! How was that crab? You should have bartered with vessel assist.-Tom

Glad you made it out alive!

My favorite personal best was bas gas (Tesoro in Forks) taking out my main and kicker at Tatoosh. Next stop was Japan.

It sucks to the one with fuel problems.

I had water in my fuel at Cathlamet. Took draining out the separator filter three times before my main would stay running.

The story:
Fished until dark. Fishing sucked. Get ready to run home and the main died. I knew right away and said "[censored] we are out of gas". Dudes looked at me and said "are you shitting me?".
I call everyone I know who lives near Bainbridge. Voice mail city.
I put out two anchors. Neither held. I call Vessel Assist. We come aground on a rocky beach at Port Madison. Me and a bud jump out and work the boat over to a sandy beach. We stayed in the water so the boat wouldn't get scratched up on the beach for an hour.
$250 later I get home at 2 am.
SolDuc fished with me for the first time last night. Probably the last time. He was not to hip on the whole thing but had a good attitude about it.
I have never run out of gas in any vehicle before.....not my car or motorcycle or anything but my [censored] lawnmower.
If we had been blackmouth fishing in the winter the whole deal would have sucked much worse.
Hey Sol I'm drawing a blank on the white sox story...

What a f'n crazy night this was..left Shilshoe at 4:30 and returned at 1:30. We came pretty damn close to some rocks in front of a water front home but some how missed them by inches. Dave was wading in the water holding the boat from grounding to deep on the beach for a good hour with a steady 10 mph wind from the north. Vessel Assist came along and pulled us out away's and gave us 5 gallons of gas @ 50.00 gallon.

The rest of the story cannot be told on here....lol

Thanks Dave....I guess ?

BYOG.

Sol needs some black wingtips to pull off those socks. Otherwise, full of fail!

Now I know what to charge the next time someone runs out of gas at Sekiu and I come to their rescue.

The person who invents an accurate fuel gauge for a boat will become a wealthy man. I've never owned a boat where the gauge read right. Didn't matter if I'm sitting level in the water, on the trailer, or moving. They all suck.

You said that right. I went with a fuel flow meter on my boat. Heck with the guage reading a float in a boat fuel cell. She has an alarm that goes off at 15gl.

The best gas gauge is a sight gauge. If you see gas in the tank, you have gas, if you dont see any gas, you dont have any gas.

Pretty simple!

Glad you guys made it out of this situation without any damage to the craft or worse.

1. 1000' spool of bungee cord. Tie one end to truck, other end to boat.
2. A chevron gas card.

Man Dave, I am glad you made it out OK, last Thursday I kept looking at the fuel gauge pinned on E and was a little worried til you told me the gauge does not work.
I've always relied on the piece of lath fuel measuring stick technique, even make marks with # of gallons on it.
This is one of those only going let it happen once in life things, just makes one wonder how many more of those you can discover. Kidding.
