My buddy who spends two months up there invited me out to fish with him. The tough part was I only had two days because of work commitments, but damn if I was going to let only two days stand in the way. My usual fishing buddy was invited along too, so I was glad to have someone to share gas with.

Left early Saturday morning without a ferry reservation to Nanaimo. I will never make that mistake again. I was the second to the last car to get on the 1015, the next one wasn't until 245 and it really sucks to sit at the terminal for numerous hours.

We left the dock at 0700 Sunday morning. Went to one spot where we lost 3 fish and soon after the bait disappeared. I did manage to catch a 15LB halibut. We pounded this area for a while more and then made a move further out. We arrived just in time for a 2 hour King bite that netted us five fish.

Sunday we leave at 0600. Head out to the spot we got the fish on the previous day. The wind was up and so where the seas. Dropped our gear and proceeded to get beat to death. Did this for about 2 hours and not a spot of bait found. I only had a few hours before the drive home. So we decided to head in and check some spots out just off shore. No luck there. Got back to the motel, packed up our stuff and made a run for the ferry. Fortuneately I made a reservation for the return trip. Because after arriving at the terminal with plenty of time for the next Ferry, we found out the previous one broke down and without a reservation the next available ferry would have been the last one of the day.

It was a quick turn around, but worth it. I love fishing out of Tofino. Oh, I forgot, the crabbing was beyond excellent. Below are the fish we got in the net and the view from the deck at the motel.

Glad you got some for your effort. I know those ferry terminals well. It's a crap shoot anymore without a reservation.

Tofino is a pretty area to visit and fish.

Nice report and pics. Thanks. Are you pretty much fishing the outside the whole time?

Still an outside game. We fished the C&B the first morning before moving up to Hiaycin (sp?) where we nailed the 5. Nothing going on at Portland Point. The fish all came at high slack. When we went inside the second day we did mark bait and some fish, but no biters. One guy said a King and a Coho were caught at the cat face hole on the high slack the day before. Wilf Rock, blunden and the other inside places are still pretty bare. A bit too early to expect much on the inside.
