Hooked one big salmon that got tangled in the downrigger cable and left with my gear and about 50 yards of mono. I hate it when that happens!

I dig the rod/reel combo in your avatar Hatch, aren't they a blast compared to the old 6' bamboo stick and Penn Senator?

My struggles still continue with none in the box but I'm getting closer......
I went from getting nothing whatsoever to catching shakers and a couple of 20-26"'rs that I released. I also lost a nice toad at the boat Saturday. I even cought a silly little Sock on a Cayote spoon???
Back at it tomorrow thru the weekend!

I still have a few bamboo rods and a box of 109/209 Penns along with some old Pflueger Sal-Trouts. I'll stick with the Moocher Plus and the graphite though, hopefully they'll get their share of abuse next week in 9 and 10.

I loved my old direct drive Penn 109 ms. I never used the drag, always just thumbed it. Great mooching reel but it became increasingly more difficult to get replacement parts for it so I broke down and started expeimenting with reels till I settled on the Tekota 500. Next reel will probably be an Islander though.-

I agree Tom, the 109's were great. I think I still have my old mooching set-up from back in the 80's. A 109 connect to a fiberglass Eagle Claw Ocean Granger rod. I caught a lot of fish at Pt Defiance on that set-up.

The long foregrip makes them alot easier to handle.

4 days on the water with only silvers to show for it, but I'm finally on the board with a king... Picked up this lady on Monday AM around PnP. 21lbs on the scale, a personal best for me in Puget Sound... And thanks to Summerrun for forgetting his white lightning coho killer on FishRangers boat, so I could use it to catch her! Like Hatch and others, single action Daiwa M-One reel--the only way to go! Special thanks to FishRanger for the ride!!

4Like Hatch and others, single action Islander MR2 reel--the only way to go! Nice chromer! Anything over 20 pounds out of the PS is a super nice fish! Fixed that typo for you. Once you go Islander, you can't go..er...uh...back?

Parker: Yea, I saw Ryley's Islander (complete with neoprene case, grin) and it's pretty darn sweet. I'm too cheap to buy one, but it's drool-worthy...
Summerrun: Yep, I was a good boy, and left it on the boat for you. I did upgrade from the stock hook to a 2/0 rvrfshr sickle siwash tho. Brought home the big girl on that hook (plug for Todd & Joe!)
