Making the trek to Barkley Sound later this week for the annual search for my first Tyee!

Has anyone been up to Barkley Sound recently? Any reports?

The Canadian board I Iook at makes it fishing sound pretty bleak this year, we usaully fish the inside; Bamfield, Kirby, Pill.

Thanks
Noskunk

Here's a link with some info, for what it's worth:
http://coastalbc.com/fish/alberni.htm

FYI - I found the CoastalBC.com website while looking for a place to rent in Ucluelet a few years ago. It has info on various rec activities on the island. If you or your kids are into mountain biking, skateboarding, surfing, skimming, amojg other things, some info is there.

Fishing up there this year has been slow. Take a pocket full of coho killers and read the regs on the computer for closures.

Good luck.

Hey there,

I was in Barkley Sound 8/11 - 8/14. It was my first time fishing here, but I feel I was pretty prepared and well informed. I, and most everyone else in camp, had a very hard time. Fishing was very slow with our boat taking in about one Chinook a day. We fished the wall, Kirby, Beale, Swale Rk and a little bit in the ocean. Kirby produced the best for us, but I hear that the ocean was doing a little bit better. From my understanding, it should get exponetially better in the next week or so. I'm kicking myself for not waiting until the end of August...next year maybe Labor Day weekend.

At any rate, check out fishtactics.com. The fishing reports for Barkley, Bamfield and Ukelette (sp) are updated every few days. Good luck!

I do my best to avoid that place on Labor Day weekend.

Hey Bucket,

Buck up big guy. There's still fish to catch up there. I do feel your pain since I haven't made it back up there in about 5 years.
Damn, life ain't fair.

Yup I know!
NOFISH and I were yappin the other day about how we used to go up there 5-6 time a summer and the last 3-4 yrs we've been lucky to get 1 trip up.
BUT--with retirement right aroung the corner, I can only pray that it allows me the option to go more often.
I expect all of you to pray for this! (it's your only chance of coming along)

Lemme get this straight, you want us to pray for your early retirement so we can 'ho more trips with ya?

How 'bout we buy your early retirement for ya? You can probably figger out how to retire on $1,000,000, and with 7798 registered users, I bet we could all cough up $128.24 each what

But you would need a bigger boat grin

Sorry for the jack

Sounds good to me! It accually figures out to be a damn reasonable price--$128.24 for a trip to Barkley.
