The main reason I like McCain, liked him from the get go was because he spoke out against torture. I wanted to hear any politician speak against it, he did, he does, he has good reason to.

I really wanted Hillary cause I like the current dem platform, was once an R & voted party before really thinking - something I regret. I won't fall for party ever, ever again in my lifetime, voting now on character.

You can find the US news piece on the 'net, maybe even find the quote on Wikipedia, no doubt with annotation leading to the US News piece, as it's the most commonly used citation for that particular quote.

I can't in good conscience say anything negative about McCain's failing under captivity, it wouldn't be fair, I've never been taken prisoner.

But that doesn't mean it didn't happen, and that others who were there under the same circumstances didn't fail.

The accusations aren't false...as a matter of fact, they're not even accusations, they're admissions, from McCain himself.

The fact that he wasn't tried for anything means that those reviewing his actions didn't find that they were deserving of a court martial, not that his actions didn't happen.
