FRom CBS4 in Denver: "CBS4 has now learned at least four people are under arrest in connection with a possible plot to kill Barack Obama at his Thursday night acceptance speech in Denver. All are being held on either drug or weapons charges. CBS4 Investigator Brian Maass reported one of the suspects told authorities they were 'going to shoot Obama from a high vantage point using a ... rifle ... sighted at 750 yards.'

"Law enforcement sources tell Maass that one of the suspects "was directly asked if they had come to Denver to kill Obama. He responded in the affirmative."

From ABC News: "A witness interviewed in the case said one of suspects allegedly said the guns were to be used to kill the Illinois senator, but authorities do not believe the alleged threat put Obama in immediate danger.....Authorities told ABC News the men had tattoos of white supremacist images."

Andrew Romano of Newsweek brings this amazing tidbit: "The hotel where the pair of would-be assassins' was staying: the Cherry Creek Hotel at 600 South Colorado Boulevard in Glendale. "Apparently, crack NEWSWEEK investigative reporter Mark Hosenball actually spied a couple of FBI agents lurking around the premises late last night."

More from Hosenball: "A source familiar with the investigation said that Gartrell and the other two suspects were believed to be white supremacists. The real question now is whether the men were in position to carry out any kind of threats against the candidate—or whether they were trying to impress girlfriends, the source said. The Obama campaign declined comment, referring reporters to the U.S. attorney's statement."



I usually try to impress my girlfriends with high powered rifles and scopes, white supremacist tattoos and meth.................. ..................doesn't everybody ?

Don't mind the guns. Tattoos are okay for some folks, no issue there. As far as the media reporting anything about firearms, they are almost always suspect. I've seen them report .45MM pistol (about the size of a pin), 50MM rifle (2"), 9 caliber pistol (an inch bigger than a deck gun for a warship). Calling semi-auto firearms assault rifles is another good one, but hey, it is sexier. Of course the media isn't really worried about the facts all the time, the scarier the story, the more ads they sell. 750 yards is quite a poke out there with a rifle. Did they mention the caliber?

I wonder if they were just a few misguided good old boys out in Colorado getting ready for a hunting trip? Haven't read the news reports yet, so I'll respond a little later on that.

Here's the wierd part, okay, wierder part. None of the other news organizations are running with the story, other than ABC. You would think if this was a credible threat EVERYBODY would be running the story. Looks like some tweaker was coerced into saying there was a threat to Obama, or maybe an embelishment of the officer once he saw the tattoos.

The main reasons I've voted republican over the years is to protect my gun rights and hunting priveledges.
The threat is real all you have to do is google up "anti hunting" or "anti gun".

I've always said that the attacks on gun rights will be the albatross around the neck of the Democratic party forever. They don't seem to fathom the fact that attacks on the 2nd amendment are just as distasteful to true Americans as attacks on the 1st amendment.

If Kerry had been elected (or Gore for that matter) and had appointed Supreme Court Justices, do you really think the decision regarding Washington D.C. gun rights (therefore all of our rights) would have turned out like it did?

My concerns are more tied to anti hunting issues as fewer and fewer kids are exposed to the outdoors and are being "educated" about wildlife by Animal Planet .
