Going to be spending the coming weekend at the Pine Needle Campground on Highway 410 with a few buddies (none of which fish), and I was wondering if anyone had advice or tips for the streams in the vicinity. I'll probably be taking the fly rod and maybe some UL gear. I've never been to this zone, so I don't know what to expect.

From looking at the map, it seems far from summer runs, but I'd love to be wrong.

Any info would be much appreciated.

No summers trout only, resist the kings. Small spinners and spoons on the UL, copper beaded nymphs and orange bodied stimulators for the bug rod.

Have fun.

The American and Bumping both look like a great rivers to fish but there are few fish. The Little Naches fishes well. Your best method here is to hike and wade. Stay away from easy access areas seen from Hwy 410.

Joe and Jon,

Thanks for the tips. Exactly what I was looking for.

Oh, and Joe, a black #3 rvrwhrlr did the trick this weekend. Nice way to "end" the season.

Just an FYI if you aren't aware of it. The Yakima system is currently going through the annual water flip-flop. While the Yakima is dropping, the flows will be increasing on the Naches, especially below the forks. The flip flop is usually done by Sept 10th or so.

Good luck

There is this small issue of a closure on the American that might be a teensy bit important.
