I just got a call from the manager of Katmai Lodge. He says he has already gotten several emails and calls about the proposed P.P. katmai trip for next year.

Soooo, heres the deal. The trip will be Aug 15-22. Thts should put us smack dab in the prime coho fishing plus it's a great time for rainbows.

Think wogging cohos, mousing big rainbows and bead fishing for 22-28 inch char and rainbows on the fly outs.

Stam, are ya in?

So, before I decide on this trip, just a quick couple of questions:

-Who get's the comp from the lodge for booking this trip? I'd just like to know who's trip I'd be subsidizing. Who gets the free trip? You? Stam? Both? Neither? No one?

-Since it's a "PP" trip, what bone did you toss to Bob? I don't seem to recall seeing any advertising up on this site for the Katmai Lodge?

Dave,

Can you detail the rough cost for us?

Airfare to/from?

Lodge rate?

Anything else you can think of?

Thanks. I'd love to do that trip.

No one!

I'd just like to know who's trip I'd be subsidizing.

Why do you care?

Who gets the free trip?

Again no one.

I go free every year. Has nothing to do with who comes with me. I often bring a friend for free. Probably not you.

You? Stam? Both? Neither?

Again, No one

Yes I did run this idea by Bob when I did with another lodge. He was fine with it. But I wonder why that is any of your business?

Airfare is about $500.00 . I usually use F.F. mileage. If you cna use miles its best to do so as RT air to King Salmon is getting pricier every year.

Lodge details including price are here. http://www.katmai.com/

Will try to answer any other questions next week. I leave tomorrow for this destination. http://www.tugboatcruise.com/

Yeah, I know about your sleeping bag issues.

You should go. We mentioned you several times as we were yarfing on coho with our fly rods. Maybe you could show me how to spey cast and end up with the same number of pieces as I begin with. I seem to be missing someting there.

Serioulsy, I bet you would love wogging those coho. I took a friend a few years ago who fell in love with the Wog and fished nothing else the entire week. We who were less pure caught less fish but he sure had fun!

Having raised a couple of kids I can heartliy recommend selling them to finance a fishing trip!

It would be a money maker in the long run.

I'm interested Dave, after all my wogs have already been there................seems sort of a shame I haven't.............. grin

I can bring 'extra' spey rods, and maybe they'll be in the same number of pieces when you're done, maybe not.

I loved wogging on the K-Tok a couple of years ago, something about all those V wakes and missed takes has you shaking in anticipation one second, and laughing your a$$ off the next while yelling 'DID YOU SEE THAT........... the whole time................ thumbs

I hope you can come up, we have a blast and next year will be another 12 to 16,000 Steelhead just waiting to be photographed!!!

I will put together some type of PP special if a bunch want to come up for Steelhead, we have plenty of drift boats and more than enough fish to go around.
I would do it for Silvers, but it looks like Katmai next year, and I will join that one!
Maybe the year after, I will do one in late August for a PP group. You know the lodge, plenty of rooms, beer and great food!!
If enough show an interest, i will put together a PP package.

Count me in also Rick, that's a fun trip for sure, and I enjoyed the hell out of it last time.

If you put together a 'PP' week for us, you'll need to be sure the bar is fully stocked...............

I want in on it too, but reality might set in. I need to see some costs, numbers, etc.

Any chance you can toss some numbers my way Stam or Rick?

I'd love to do the Katmai trip, but I already know that is for high rollers. frown

This would be a great place to do a trip. If you get a chance to request guides go with Tom Westman, Al borchers, Brad Tuffley, or Nick Charles. All the guys know their stuff, but you won't find better company than those guys. They aren't as square as some and won't dig on you all week if you want to throw some spinners instead of flies like a lot of out guys.

I would say fish with me, but I won't be back here next year for sure after today. I can put up with this for only so long, but after I watched the lodge manager ripped open my mail today and take pint of Crown Royal sent up by a girlfriend because it's against the rules I'd won't work for this place again. Forgive me for my tiny bottle 5 days before I go home. It seems like a great excuse to commit a federal crime.
World renowned silvers and trout that time of year guests leave always feeling like it was worth every penny.
Great place to stay.....never work here.

KO

ps. There's no Boos here at all, just beer so BYOB just don't have it sent up.

I was just thinking, if anybody can figure out how to get a boat up here I know a guy who's been guiding this river for a few years that would love to take some guys just to fish for fun. It would be cheep because there would be no guide cost or lodge fees besides getting the boat.

oh, im dumb but most of ya knew that.

yakutat is the bomb imo dollar for dollar the best/cheapest alaska trip you can do, that is if you like a river with 15000 native steelhead, 100lb halibut and big ocean kings in less than 100ft of water, good booze, satellite tv, tasty grub, 18000 foot mtns rising out of the ocean etc...I usually come home with 100 lbs of halibut, 20lbs of king and cnr a buttload of native steel...count me in...cheers

Sol--LMAO, So, is your mind in the gutter or you don't like the base price on the web! Special Package does not mean it comes with a sleeping companion for you. You are way to ugly for the Yakutat girls!

Give me few days and I will post a package and see what you guys think.
If we decide to group up, then you will want to buy your tickets in October when Alaska Airlines runs an employee special and the prices come way down for a month before going back up.
And for those of you going anywhere in Alaska and have miles to use, 20,000 gets you up there for next year, won't get any cheaper than that.

Just remember the 20,000 mile tickets will be 40,000 right after the October/November Alaska Airlines special, just don't known when they will do it so keep an eye on their web site to see when the prices drops.
