I just recently tried using dink floats with braided line. My first snag tore the bobber in half.
So I think I am back to using sliding bobbers. I am wondering about what sort of bobber stops can be used with braid. All I see normally are the little bag of nail knots, used with a bead.
I find that using these, and a heavier weight, cause the bobber stop to get worn out after a while, causing for some serious downtime.
Is there something else that I can use to work as a bobber stop? I understand that I can use a plug to fix the bobber, but at this time, I would rather use a sliding bobber.

Use the wrap around dink floats, but wrap a rubberband around the float instead of wrapping your line around the float.

Since when does a bobber need a stop? Don't they have clips?

i'm gonna get my BOBBER and my POLE and lay it down on you canuck worshipping elitists i've used the dogbone stops before, but i haven't done much fishing with braid. they might work a little better. the rubber band idea sounds like the way to go if you don't mind using a fixed bobber.

Nail knot dacron - extra wraps for braid works great for me - holds tight and stays adjustable.

Mr. Twister:
1. round cork bobber, I have 3 or 4 different sizes. Use white paint, then either bright orange or Flo. Green, around the red stop supplied with the bobber. The color is to be able to see the bobber. Believe me, doesn't scare the fish.
2. Take the Red stop out, put your braided line thur, put red stop back in.
3. I use a size 12 or size 14 barrel swivel at end of braided line. The "improved cinch knot" works very well.
4. Use 8 - 12 pound leader, again use the "improved cinch knot", both for the leader to the barrel swivel and for the jig.
5. Something "we locals" have been doing, is to jam a piece of pencil lead in the bottom of the "bobber". Does 2 things, helps as a bobber stop, and add weight to allow you to cast better.
6. To adjust for how deep to have jig, just slide the bobber up or down the braided line.
By setting it up this way........I have not lost a bobber in the past 3 years. I use 20# braid(either stren or PP).........if I snag, the leader material will break first.
I've caught fish in as shallow as "knee deep" water.......just shorten the leader length.
Take a look at "Bradsjigs.com", all the steelhead were caught this past summer by using the above method. Works for us, sure could work for you!!!!

MR. Twister, Tried many different kinds of "floats" and this is what I have found. Braided line is strong for it's size and water resistance, however, when it gets wet, the line is hard to mend, and trying to threat a wet braided line through a dink is like trying to shove it up a Wild Cats A__!
There are Hi-Vis mono lines that float and easy to mend when floating. Use a tooth pick in the top of the dink to hold the float in place. 95% of the time you don't need a sliding float. The top of the dink float should have about an inch or less above the water. Take two pieces of rubber(Surg) about 1/4 inch in width and place them above the swivel. Take the proper pencil lead weight and slide it into the rubber, whereas, one rubber holds the top of the lead, and the other holds the bottom. It is easy to remove or change the lead. The FLOATING MONO is easier to mend, retains it's vis color, & doesn't get wrapped around the end of the rod. Tried it all!

I am using 30# Spiderwire for my braid. As I am know reading about more advanced braids, I am seeing that there may be advantages to the pricier versions of braid, like PP or Superbraid, as they are being made to hold their shape better.
Thanks for the lessons.

I use the Adjust-A-Bubble floats (surgical tubing through the middle). They're great. They wouldn't work too well if you were fishing deeper than 6 feet.

I figured someone would get to this, but..... Anyone tried using a slip knot with a piece of yarn in the loop for a temporary, quick, sliding bobber stop? I learned this trick years and years ago. It has it's limitations, but couldn't be simpler.

Here's a couple of photos... Threading braid (cotton line used for example) through a slip float... Slip knot with yarn.

Get a cocktail straw or some other small gauge straw. Tie your own nail knots around the straw using 12 lb test mono. You can store a good number of nail knots on the straw. Leave the tag ends long enough to work with. Slide the straw over the main line and slide the nail knot off. Cinch it up and you are ready. These work better on braided line than they do on mono. As long as you don't break the wet line above the knot, this is a good solution. Never have had to try to get the wet braided line though the straw, but I can well imagine it would be next to impossible to do. If that happened, I would simply tie the nail knot directly onto the braided line.

Mister T Try this. You will not cut your floats and you get them back if you break your leader.
