Now that King season is over I have been spending most of my time chasing cutties on local beaches and over into Hood Canal. This past weekend I had the opportunity to house-sit (and get paid to do it ) a friends place on Hood canal. They even have a little aluminum boat with a 40 hp 4stroke Yamaha.
Needless to say I jumped all over the chance and quickly packed my fly rods. There were cutts jumping all over the place the first mornin and I had a blast throwing poppers to the beach and watching multiple fish chase it up to the boat. There was no wrong fly, no wrong place and plenty of action for the next 3 days. we found pods of resident silvers, big schools of cutts and some migratory salmon.
i only took one picture. Its of my girlfriend's first fish on a cast fly on the fly rod. one of many for the few days we fished but by far the biggest she landed. She also lost another that may have been a little bit bigger.
There are plenty of cutts around the local salt right now, mainly feeding on sandlance. Get out there and have some fun, and remember to treat them with respect and carefully release each and every one.
