I would'nt feel too bad about a few foul hooked fish being kept because tomarrow the indians are probably gonna go wild and net every living thing out of that river. -T

Supposedly it's to provide additional protection for Wild Chinook, but you'll likely find another reason when you see the river choked with nets tomorrow morning.

Indeed. The net's "protect" them from having irresponsible and "unprotected" relations.

You guys crack me up. Whitey caught more illegal fish than the Skoks ever thought about. 1.........2........3..........rrrriiiiiiipppppp.

Say what you want, but I was down there almost everyday. Whitey, with their GLoomis rods and Simms waders snagged and kept more fish than the tribe is going to catch in a year.

Clean up our side of the river before you biatch about the other side.

Whity----Nice and racist, you rock.
And then to say that a bunch of snaggers will take more fish than dozens of gill nets, now you have shown your stupidity.
Thanks for the fine post!

i think the skok closed early to take into account snagging...oops i mean 'hooking' and catch and release mortality from sport fishers....kinda funny...keep snagging and the season'll get even shorter...

Dude. I showed you that it wasn't a GLoomis rod, but rather a custom made TH Rod!

Man, get your facts straight!

i really, really doubt the whitey snaggers are taking that many fish...seems like the success rate among them is about 1 fish per 4 or 5 rods.

it sucks that they're closing it down due early due to snagger "hook and release" mortality...right as swarms of HATCHERY silvers are flooding into the river.

i agree about cleaning up "our" act(though i really don't like to be grouped in that riff raff crowd) before biatching about the tribe. i might not like their netting practices but there's not a whole hell of a lot you can do about it, so it's best not to let it get to you.

Seems like the part that really sucks is that the fish in that river WILL bite, and they would probably bite even more readily if they didn't have 100 corkies ripping past them every minute. I've only fished it a couple of times, but I've managed a hook up or two each time I've been there - on float and eggs. It gets old hearing stuff like, "good job, bubba, you even hooked that one in the mouth!"
I need to do a little more exploring down there to find places away from "those" crowds to find some unmolested fish, tough to do when you don't have many fishing days...
As for the co-manglers, I mean co-managers ahem, not much we can do about that, hopefully they are cooperating with giving the fish a break...

get in the right spots(below areas where fish get harassed by snaggers) and it's like fishing for pinks. a group of us bobber fishermen(a half dozen or so) hooked into close to 40 fish one morning in mid-august. i went home with a nice hen and worn out shoulders.

if the fish in the nisqually bit like that, i'd be driving 5 miles instead of 30.

Now you are showing your stupidity. There were a total of 6 nets set the other day when I walked the river. I didn't see a fish in 4 of them. I watched them check a couple of others, one had 3 fish, the other had 2.
In this low clear water the nets don't do very well. When the limit used to be 6 fish there were many times when I had more fish on the bank than the nets did.

The limit was dropped down to one fish because of the snagging. It was closed down early because of the snagging. Like I said clean up our side before you biatch about the other.

I haven't fished the river in many years. I fish the estuary and witnessed the lack of nets this last week. I'm targeting silvers and see the Skokomish Fishers laying off the Chinook.

Sorry Fishhead, not going to fly---
First rain those nets will be full and you know it.
With the nets and snagging, should just close the whole thing down to all.
Poor fish don't have a chance.

The Skok is what it is....a hatchery fed meat market. It's a tidewater river on the reservation choked so full of fish that hooking one is simply a function of making enough casts into the holding water to make it happen. *MOST* of the fish that are *FAIRHOOKED* in the mouth *DO NOT BITE,* they are flossed, I.E., snagged in the mouth. So you've got a couple hundred of angling's finest all snagging and realeasing 6 fish to find one that is snagged in the mouth that they can take home. What a spectical. Personally, I would rather see the meth-smoking metropolitian trailer trash get the hell off the river with their first fish, snagged in the dorsal or whathaveyou, and leave the rest of the fish alone, although I do understand what would most likely lead to an all-out free-for-all, which is what they are trying to curtail with the *FAIRHOOKED* regulation.

The Skok is what it is....you wouldn't look for a wife in a whorehouse....don't go there with expectations of seeing pristine scenery and meeting fellow anglers with river etiqute, and then bitc% when you don't get it.

GBL: You can say what you want about Doug, but he is one of the most generous, level-headed, sincere guys I've ever had the pleasure to meet, and he's a local boy that knows what he is talking about.
