Sol summed it up pretty good.

The dam is on the NF.

Actually the canyon had started to heal itself quite a while ago. Larry Ogg was doing a Bull Trout study up there in the mid-late 90's and he was surprised how much it was changing just in the time he did the study. I think you'll find most of the fill in the lower valley came from a huge slide about 1/2 mile below the mouth of the canyon.

Thanks Sol.

Sol-I am sure you are right about Doug.

Doug--I apologize for taking a shot at you. Not my style.
Just don't like comparing "commercial" netting with snagging or any other type of non-commercial fish take no matter how stupid it is.

sol, im with you. it is what it is. one can give it a go or one may leave it alone. there's no lie or truth left untold about it. you know what you're getting into before you go, and you can make the best out of it if you'd like. you can join the meat haul, you can find a small piece of water to yourself, and although it may not hold near as many fish as the slaying holes, there are still fish to be had; i've done both too many times to count. i'm not going to bitch and whine about it. i've had A LOT of fun days there. i have no qualms about the river closing temporarily and i would prefer if the nets would abstain during the sport closure, but like i said before, it is what it is. it will be open again and i hope the silvers will be plentiful and still bright; they bite better for me than the kings. it amazes me how strong the run is year after year even with the netting and the large sport catch, biters or not. if people don't like it, leave it be and fish somewhere else. all partys with any influence are already aware of the situation there so no further bitching and crying on this board are needed or wanted. i'll be back in october.

you also have to remember that 45%-50% of all fish returning to the skoke are caught before they reach WA waters as well....that's where all your impacts are used up...by the commercials 2 weeks ago in Alaska and BC....so if you get 100 fish coming back this year the tribes would get 50 you'd get 50....except 45 of your fifty are caught before they even hit the river while the tribes are just getting in to their share.....

you know it almost feels bad to tell someone you caught a fish in the skok these days because the first thing any fisherman thinks is (Oh you snagged one Huh). Snagger.

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

"Went out and got a nice king today."

"Really? Where'd you go?"

"The Skok."

yeah, it gets old telling them my bobber stories.

i got into an argument with the guy that hooked my internet up a few months ago. he saw an STS mag or something and asked me if i salmon fish, and where my favorite spot is(which i replied, "everywhere"). he says "my favorite place is the skok, but the wardens don't like the way i set the hook" huh

i told him about the usual 10-20 fish days on eggs, and he had the nerve to call me a lawbreaker because "you can only catch 1 and then you have to quit", even after i told him i release nearly all my fish. i decided to end it right there, the guy was obviously braindead and reeked of cheap booze. another one of the types i see enough of on the rivers these days. he probably would've told me i was a criminal for using spinners for coho there.

i know what to expect on that river, but i never seem to adjust to it. one of these days i'm going to probably come home in a box for calling out the wrong jerkoff who happens to be armed.
