Since this story is well over 24 hours old I was a little upset that a thread had not already been made in regards to the Kristine Fairbanks murder. As many of you should already know this was indeed the wife of Forks area WDFW field agent Brian Fairbanks, who as I am sure is suffering from the loss of his life. For those who have not heard a simple google search will bring you up to date.

Having met Brian a dozen times or so I can say that he is what the WDFW had in mind when they created the game warden position. Anyone who aspires to work as a field agent should use Brian as a model, and I would suspect his late wife was just as diligent as he is.

From the bottom of the heart we are all gravely upset by your loss and you will be in our thoughts and prayers.

I can't imagine anything worse. Simply a tragedy.

Many years ago in Bremerton we had a great game warden named Fairbanks. it seems too cooincidental. Does anyone know if this Fairbanks is related to the one who worked the Bremerton area back on thr 60's?

I was thinking of starting a thread on this yesterday, but didn't feel it was my place as I've only met Officer Fairbanks twice in my 25 years of fishing the OP.

The first time was on the lower Quilliute & I believe he was working for the U.S. Parks Service then as thats the uniform I remember. I had walked into a small spot to bank fish for silvers & we met while I was fishing my second run. I could see him looking me over & checking my gear which is fine as thats his job. I enjoyed a nice conversation with him, he wished me well in my fishing & moved on upriver. Funny thing is he never asked to look at any of my gear tucked away in my vest or ask for my licence, which I thought was pretty classy. Just two guys shooting the bull on the river.

Second time was just this last summer out of Neah Bay, I was jigging for rockfish & had the WDFW boat pull up on me. He let his younger sidekick handle the licence/gear/fish check, but when we asked a few technical questions of our own, the younger officer was a bit lost. Officer Fairbanks stepped in with the info we needed, again a class act.

I agree with Br. Chin, that this man is the way they are drawn up in the WDFW textbook, professional, polite & smart. I never had the pleasure to met his wife, and now I never will......

My heart goes out to Officer Fairbanks and his young daughter, I can't imagine the loss you & yours are feeling.

My condolences to the Fairbanks family and friends. My GF works with folks at the Olympic Forest Supervisor's office, and everyone here is devastated over the loss.

As I sat down to eat my breakfast on sunday, I went and grabbed the paper without looking at it. Then sat down and could barely eat my food, tears were running down my face and the sadness was overwhelming. At a young age, I was on the wrong side of the fishing laws and it was Brian that happened to be on the other side,of course i was pist that he gave me a ticket, but as I grew older and wiser I am glad that it was him. I now see him on a quite regular basis guiding out west and our conversations and interactions are always pleasant and rewarding, class act. My prayers and thoughts are with him daily. I used to think otherwise of law enforcement as a youngster and rebelled at every chance against them, as I have grown up, I have the utmost respect for them and the job and sacrifice that they provide, they truly take an oath to give all even their lives, very sad, just very sad.Matt

My thoughts and prayers go out to the fairbanks family. met Brian in forks several years ago and as earlier stated could only describe him as a model enforcement officer, a poster-child for what we need more of. I met Kristine out in the port angelas area a while ago and I can see why they were together, she was a wonderful woman, very caring , with a smile that could melt icebergs that mirrored her as a NPS officer. truely as loss to the state, as well as family and friends.

R.I.P.

When I read that in the paper yesterday I was wonder if there was a connection with Brian. Brian is a class act and our sympathies go out to Brian and his family, truly a tragic event.

I'm with SlabQuest on this.
Didn't know anyone involved. Felt horrible when I saw it on the net Sat night...felt even worse when I started reading about the people who knew them here.
Big props to all of those people who work in the sticks and have to confront people they don't know. I'll try to keep that in mind when approached by authorities.

Wow, what a shock when I just pulled this thread while making a quick check of the board from up north. A sad deal, even though we haven't heard any of the details yet. Our thoughts and prayers also go out to Brian.
