you run a long leader so when you break off you still got enough for another round!!!!! I have been fishing dick nites for a VERY long time and I will admit I have ended up flossed a few but its pretty rare!!!

If the inside corner of the mouth counts as a floss, I should play basketball

Wow. Someone feels unloved.

I'll state the obvious - Parker gets those rides 'cause he makes it worthwhile for everyone involved. Just a guess.

Expert ?........lol... I didn't hear anyone claim to be an expert....lol.. Ok, I'll claim to be an expert, except, I am, no claim.
Not to many on this board were even alive when Dick Nite fishing in the river was perfected.

When I first began fishing them we had to dig the ore, smelt it, forge it, hammer it and then find berries to make paint from. It often took three or four day to make just one.

We fished them on 50 pound test leaders to be sure we never lost one. No one flossed back then, but many had missing teeth and very bad breath.

Are you talking the fish or the guides with bad breath, Dave?

i'll usually set it up with a couple split shot to sink it quicker, but not hamper the action.

and to answer bigchump's question, it depends on intent. i'm sure i've flossed fish over the years incidentally, but i have never once done it intentionally. it is sort of a gray area, but when i see a guy with a 6' leader and a corky or DN jerking at the end of every drift, there's about a 102% chance of them being a snagger, which seems to be about 7 out of 10 guys on any given river in recent years.

"trying" to floss a fish = snagging by the very definition in the rulebook, which = ILLEGAL and un-sporting. end of story.

The only fish I saw landed yesterday were on long leaders with corkies and big yanks. Fishing Dick Nites correctly we only had one tug all day and it didn't stick. It is difficult to watch guys landing fish flossing them while I am getting skunked, but we didn't move over to the dark side.

One thing I would like to say is that if you half to catch fish by flossing or snagging, please don't brag about your catch.

I never thought of fishing a Dick Nite being Rocket Science and no fisherman should think it is. If you get the basic set up, fish on.

The subject says "proper" so I guess if that falls in the long lining category then ya.

It is probably a more simple lure to fish--next to spoon or spinner --I think. I often walked out to a river with a vest full of shiat--now I got a boat full of shiat. But I think narrowing down your lure selection increases you ability to Hook Up. I found this out when I lightened the load Ok just taking spoons-including Dick nites, spinners and necessary terminal gear. Leaving drift gear, floats, plugs, and uneeded lead.

Dialed in the appropriate water and casted casted casted--and hook ups came and came more often. Learned to troll em, back em down with a diver.

But I hand it to Dick nite, wicked willie--something about them little fluttering spoons. Ya I wont say I havent hooked one on the outside of the mouth-but not intentional. Frick lighten up who has not lined one without trying-your casting in a river there are fish there your lure is moving towards the direction of the fishes mouth—chances are pretty high this might happen eh.

You can get a good look at a T-bone by sticking your head up a bulls arse but wouldnt you rather just go to the butcher? Ok not sure where I was going with that but I just wanted to say it.

species are not particular I have hooked—not on the list sockeye--Yet
Silvers
Humpies biatches
Chum a Dumb
Steelhead
1 Chinook--on the larger size dick nite--the fish was 35-40lb on a dick nite-I rate this one a fluke-yes in the mouth
dollies
Rainbow
Cutthroat
Brookies
Walleye
perch--chump fish
Lakers
Oh and Small mouth bass
Gobies—these fish are chump
Whitefish
rockbass

CraigO...I say probably those same guys (flossers) saturday, "limit" on 9 ft leaders and single corkies. One guy gets out of the boat, cleans at least 3 and splits w/ his 3 maybe 4 fish, after telling me "thats how it's done, boy" the other two proceed to catch more then move way up stream to process their catch....a very specific drift boat, seen alot on the Sky n Snoho and I WILL make it my business next time....
