Wouldn't miss it for the world...I suspect it will be a bloodbath...and that the RWWJ's who applauded Palin's factless and substanceless pre-written speeches still won't mind one bit.

I predict half the wacko's on the right wing will claim victory and that their candidate "knocked it out of the park", and the other half of the left wing fruitcakes will also claim victory as their candidate is the next second coming of Moses and the waters will part.

I predict Obama to make more sense, speak more clearly, and in general show how much better educated and in touch with the real world he is. I also predict the Granbo/ Carribou Barbi fans will not hear any of it and claim a solid victory depite common sense. -T

I'll be intellectually honest. I detest the liberal attacks on hunting, the 2A and all the hippie treehugging freaks that support the democratic party. That being said, I think Obama is a sharper speaker and a more polished candidate . He ain't gettin my vote but that's what I see.

What an interesting 97 minutes! You know I have come full circle - I started out this election cycle believing that no matter who we elected, we were going to be so much better off than they we have been for the last 8 years. I could live with McCain as President, I will end up voting for Obama, my biggest concern is Gov. Palin and her place a heartbeat away.
I thought that both candidates did quite well. There was lots of agreement between the two candidates, especially on the first part that dealt almost exclusively with the economy. Obama was much more engaging and called McCain John throughout the debate while McCain never personally addressed Obama directly. The foreign policy portion clearly brought out the fundamental differences between the candidates. It was amazing that both candidates saw totally different Iraq wars. McCain saw the Iraq war as starting with the surge. Obama saw it like the surge didn't exist. They both have serious liabilities with this one.
If either side expected a knockout blow, I think they were disappointed. There was a very serious and sober tone, reflective of the very serious situation we now find ourselves in.

I would say it was a draw. However, it focused on foreign policy... McCain's supposed strong point. The most interesting part for me came afterwards when I heard that my conservative, Naval Academy graduate lifetime Republican father-in-law, who has never voted Democrat and said he never would, is now considering Obama. That kind of thing would scare me if I was in the McCain camp.
It will be an interesting 6 weeks.

This is how BarackO debates - he agrees, I agree with John, I agree with what John said, John & I agree.... how many times did he do that? Same thing he did with Hillary, he copied her exactly but somehow makes it his own by adding flowery pleasantries. Tonight he effectively became McCain - save the bites that he memorized & regurgitated via his handlers.
But what else could be expected of a guy who when asked his OPINION says - thats above my pay grade. Since when is an opinion above anyones pay grade?
How come I've never seen you post anything related to fishing?

Did anyone get a correct count of how many times Big O said "Sen. McCain is right" of course John's right....Duh. And was it me or did John look great, confident, and at least 15 years younger. John must have got a hummer back in the dressing room. Round 1 to John McCain. Mf

I'd say they were about even last night, and while that's disappointing as a Democrat, it ought to be really disappointing to a Republican, since the "foreign policy" debate was the only real chance McSame had to gain any ground...he'll get devoured in any conversation about domestic issues or the economy.
This was his chance, and he blew it.

Very nearly even IMHO. If you saw a clear victory by either you need to go clean your political lenses.
McCain was sharp on foriegn policy even if he did make a few factually incorrect remarks. Obama was presidential with an unflappable demeanor that most folks will like.
McCain is saddled with a God awful pick for VP. (That says something about his judgement.) Obama is too liberal and too inexpirenced -But by the same standard Palin is 100% unacceptable.
Asd a certified old fart myself I can tell you 72 is too damn old to handle the job of president and Palin is absolutly not qualified to take his place. That leaves us with Obama.
Can anyone say they would be comfortable with Plain for Pres? If so, go watch the mess she made of the softballs Katie Korik threw her.

it would have been nice if obama would of not interupted every ten seconds when it wasn't his floor. found it very anoying and imature. That observation is, very likly, more a reflection of which cantidate you prefer. I watched it all and would guess each interupted the other about the same number of times. I know that after about an hour total time was amazingly even. Polls suggest that only about 18% of voters remain undecided. The rest very likely saw "their" cantidate as the clear winner.

Uh...the "this was his chance, and he blew it" part was for McCain...the foreign policy debate last night was his chance to show that he has more and better experience than Obama, and he failed. At best, it was a draw for McCain.
When the other domestic issues and economy debates come along, he'll get his old ass kicked.

John looked old, condesending, and rattled at times. He also lied about Eisenhower and trumped up the fact that Kennedy was in the hospital when in fact he had been in for a brief check up. Parker nailed it, It really boils down to what your beliefs are as to wether you think Obama or McCain won this one. With all due respect MF, I think it was you, 15 years younger? Classic pic of McCain schooling Obama John looks Great. Mf

Hard to say who is dumber here, MF for his inability to anything clearly regarding the campaign, or ACT for his 2nd grade spelling.
Either way, the moderator let the candidates talk, rather than yelling 'TIME" at the end of some predetermined amount of time irrelevant to the complexity of the question asked.
More debates like this in the future...................
No question McCain't needed to do better than he did, and Obama did well enough.
A tie in the end I'd guess, but that's a plus for Obama, seeing as McCain't was 'supposed' to clean up on foreign policy, because he was a POW or something.................... So what are your qualifications Smart Ass, besides being Brain Dead. All I've seen coming from you is the same old tired Democrat line of Bull Crap. It didn't fly with Jimmy Carter, Dukaukus, Al (The Creator of the Internet) Gore or John (The War Hero) Kerry either. Seeing as how anyone with an opposing opinion to yours is a Dumb Ass or has a Second Grade Education in your eyes you are just showing your own stupidity and as an end result how can anyone take your views seriously. End of Subject as there's no sense in trying to debate someone who's Brain Dead as it is in your case.

You're not a dumbass for having a different opinion...many folks manage to have different opinions on here without being a dumbass.
You're a dumbass because you can't put a coherent sentence together, and you're so clearly partisan as to be unable to have an actual conversation about any issues...you're starting to make Sean Hannity look smart, and that takes some doing.
Just repeating factless partisan rhetoric is not political discourse...it's being a dumbass.
If you want a good example of a conservative viewpoint being expressed without being a dumbass, read Hankster's stuff, or Dogfish's posts about gun control.

KK, quit being such an elitist...spelling and complete sentences are way overrated, anyway.
Further evidence that the farther you get in school, the more likely you are to not only be able to write, spell, and read, but you'll also tend to see through the right wing partisan horse$hit and vote for progressive candidates and truly American ideals.

Huh. Copied from another board- I guess not everyone sees the debate the way Mf saw it. CBS: 40% of uncommitted voters who watched the debate tonight thought Barack Obama was the winner. 22% thought John McCain won. 38% saw it as a draw. frank luntz: obama dallas morning news: This debate, with its emphasis on foreign policy, was supposed to be Mr. McCain's time to shine. But Mr. Obama matched him score for score, fending off any sort of game-changer. Mr. McCain held his own, but that may not be sufficient on his home field. dick morris on "hannity and combes": "Unfortunately, I think Obama won this debate," said Dick Morris on Hannity and Colmes. kansas city star: Americans looking for a warrior in the White House surely warmed to GOP Senator John McCain’s scrappy debate performance Friday night. But Democrat Barack Obama turned in the more statesmanlike effort. He was unflappable even under McCain’s often condescending attacks. While McCain went for punches, Obama scored points with sound arguments. milwaukee journal sentinel: The topic was foreign policy, with undercurrents of the financial crisis now consuming the attentions of the U.S. Congress. This main topic, woven as it is with national security, was one in which John McCain was thought to have an edge over Barack Obama. He made every attempt to paint the Illinois senator as naïve. He mostly failed. miami herald: McCain made the most notable misstatements and stumbled over the names of the leaders of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, whose name he couldn't pronounce, and of Pakistan, referring to the latter as "Qadari" instead of Asif Ali Zardari. McCain incorrectly asserted that former Gen. Pervez Musharraf rescued Pakistan from being a "failed state" when he seized power in a 1999 coup. real clear politics: CBS News: Obama won 39%, McCain won 25%, Draw 36% Insider Advantage: Obama won 42%, McCain won 41%, Undecided: 17% CNN: Obama "did better" 51%, McCain "did better" 38%

The idea that it was McSame's opportunity to kick some ass, and that he flubbed it, is the only idea that you can come away with after Friday night's performance...
He needed to knock it out of the park, and barely dribbled a grounder to the second baseman...
If he lost the debate, then he really lost, because he needed to really, reallly win it convincingly.
If he was equally effective as Obama, then he lost, because he really, really needed to win it convincingly.
Even if he won it by a bit, he still loses, because he really, really needed to win it convincingly.
Unfortunately for him, as I said above, only the baseless base even thinks he won at all...and even most of them realize that even if he did win, it wasn't by much.
It would take someone with their head about nine feet up their ass to think that he won convincingly...and they'd vote for McSame if he crapped in his hand and put it in his pocket on national TV, so no skin of Obama's nose.
Biden is going to rip Palin a new one in the VP debate, and whatever is left of the facade that she knows anything at all about pretty much anything will be ripped away.
Obama will destroy McSame on domestic issues and the economy.
McSame's only chance was to peddle the usual Republican fear campaign..."We're all going to die at the hands of Islamo-Fascists if you elect anyone but me!"...and then show some sort of reason why he's the only one who can save you...and he couldn't even get that idea out there well at all, much less convincingly.
Fish on...

I read it before I posted this...and I'll just say this:
Leave it to a damn Democrat to inject facts into the debate.
It's a lot more fun, granted, to just say stuff (even if it's patently false), and flash your dentures at the cameras.
The baseless base (i.e., you and others like you, bwp) eat that kind of stuff up, along with factless and illogical speeches by a VP candidate who barely knows which shoe goes on which foot, but can see Russia from somewhere in Alaska.
I repeat...this particular debate was the last chance that McSame had to show two things:
1. He's not George Bush regurgitated 2. He's got a foreign policy that far outstrips that of his much younger rival
...and he managed to do neither.
The next two debates will be a bloodbath for McLame, and the VP debate will look like a Saturday Night Live skit, which would be funny, were it not actually playing a part in the election of the LOTFW*.
Fish on...

He should have given him that face and then said one of the following:
1. I'd answer that question, but I think I'm passing a gall stone.
2. I knew I should have changed my Depends during the last commercial break...the remains of that Salisbury Steak I had for lunch is running down the inside of my thighs right now.
3. What's a Shiite?
4. I'm being owned by a black man.

If he really wanted to ingratiate himself to his baseless base, he should have said...
"Hey, look...I may not know what I'm talking about, I may be older than dirt, I may suffer mental deficiencies from being a POW for so long, none of which have ever been treated, I may be an adulterous cheating bastard, I may flip-flop more than a short order cook at IHOP, I may have chosen the most ignorant VP candidate to date, without spending more than five minutes vetting her...
...but at least I'm not black."

And Obama is a strutting little peacock, anticipating the time when he can make people bow down and kiss his robe... and most of you lefties would do it without hesitation, probably fighting to see who gets to kiss it first. SWOON!!!!! OBAMA/TODD '08

Why don't you enlighten us to exactly what it is Palin brings to the table? Tell us about all the "facts" and "policies" she's put forth so far?
Prove to us how "anti-pork" she is...how well her "abstinence only" education plan works in the actual world of reality, and how "seeing Russia from somewhere in Alaska" means she has foreign policy experience.
You have the floor...use it for something more useful than your last few posts...

McCain't is now stuck in DC, his campaign 'suspended' until he can 'save the world' by getting the bailout passed.............
Yep that is pretty much it...save the worlds economy aka as the economy of the USA. Good on McCain, gotta love his love of country. That's really all you've got, isn't it? A talking point from Limbarf and Shammity? Come on, bwp...the floor is yours...tell us what's so great about Falin.

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

Holy $hit.
You really think she "uses too many words"...?
For real?
I don't think she even knows many words.
So far, all she's done is duck interviews (because she'll be exposed as a fraud), read a factless, and mostly dishonest speech written by Bush's speechwriters, and tell us that she doesn't even know what the Bush Doctrine is, and that Russia isn't that far from Alaska.
She's an absolute failure...and Biden will eat her well-used piece of ass for lunch.
Fish on...

Well after having watched the debate and the commentary given by both sides after the debate I would have to say that it was a tie. No clear winner, nobady got bested or had their a$$ handed to them. It was McCain's to win and he did not. As for Palin, it isn't too late for McCain to come to his senses and have her withdraw. She is clueless and her absence from the press proves it. She is to be trotted out on ocassion and given softball interviews which she can't handle. "I'll go find some and bring them back to ya. O.K.?" what the hell kind of answer is that? I can't imagine this woman being president, ever. If you can by all means vote for McCain.
