BUCK NASTY!!

In 1992 my cousin and I were hunting up near Trout Lake and he shot a big 3x4 (18" x 19") and it dressed meat and bones only at 192 pounds...

Personally my best is 152 pounds meat and bones.

My father claims he shot a buck in 1979 which he has mounted on the wall (21.25" wide by 19" tall) 3x3 with eye guards that dressed 212 pounds meat and bones. It too was killed up near Mt. Adams out the back side of the Trout Lake area.

Most of the smaller fork bucks and 3pts I've seen average around 95-110 pounds meat and bones in our area here as well as Trout Lake...

What's the biggest you've seen or killed and I'm talking head, hide and hooves cut off at the knees?

You've seen my biggest Blacktail in the Oshawnassy thread. That is the biggest deer I have ever seen on the hoof, alive or dead. It was a horse. Sounds hard to believe, but it took two of us to drag this deer, any distance, on the ground. Call me a liar because we never had it weighed, but I would guess 230 to 240 on the hoof, and 200, gutted and skinned on the hook.

I'd be curious to call some of the local meat cutting shops to see what they've seen come through over the years. Butcher Boys, which is one of the larger meat cutters in town he said that deer my cousin killed that was 192 was the second biggest he'd ever seen over his years of owning the shop...

192 sounds close to the size of mine, which was an approximation. Those bigger woodland bucks are an apparition to see in the woods, they almost look like elk. Easily twice the size of the does they are chasing.

Yeah there's no doubt about that. This buck looked like a 55 gallon drum on toothpicks. He dwarfed the does he was chasing and his neck had to be 30-32" around....

I shot this buck in '88,in a clearcut about 10 miles past the Hood Canal bridge. I was 14 when I shot him. It took me and a buddy about 3 hours to drag it the 100yds back to the road. This fugger couldn't have died in a nastier clearcut. He was 190 (meat and bones) hanging at the butcher.

I shot a 3pt in 2006 that was over 230lbs hanging in the garage, but that's with the head and hide on. We used a drag sled to get him out and still had to cut him in half. To reduce the dragging weight in the field we cut away all the fat we could reach near his midsection where we halved him, and cut the legs off at the knees. I killed another 3pt in the same spot a few years earlier that was in the same class but that was before I bought a scale.

Sol wanted a body pic so I dug a pic up and took a picture of it. I shot a spike bull the same year and I swear this buck was bigger than the elk.

My buddy drove an F150 with a long bed. I remember having to tie a rope to the antlers and tie the head back so we could close the tailgate without crunching the antlers. He was a bit rutted up,I tried to deflate the neck with a .30 cal exit wound. thumbs The taxidermist wasn't very impressed. smile

Seems like I remember a story about a huge body blacktail that came out of Port angeles. The story said they thought it had a pitituary gland problem. Anyone else remember this?

I shot a blacktail that was a 4x4 with eye guards very heavy horns not too tall or wide that I took to the butcher to have cut and wraped. I got back 112lbs of packed meat. It was a struggle for two of us to drag him 200' up a hill. When we loaded him in the toyota long bed he stretched from end to end with his butt against the cab. He also had a big gray face and a bowed nose. No pictures and only mounted the horns. No money for a head mount at that time. Growing up in Lewis county back in 1950es I have heard of blacktails dressing out at well over 200lbs. My dad took one above Mossyrock that dressed 232. I seen a blacktail above Packwood during elk season that could have weighed close too 300lbs, I came across his track elk hunting, thought it was a small cow track where he crossed a cat road, there was 6 inchs of snow on the ground. Walked a little ways up the road and decided to find out for sure, traced him for about a hour, crossed a deep gully and came to edge of a logging, looked uphill and he standing there looking at me, horns where 3" to 4" past his ears 3 long points and long eye guards both sides, turned and walked across logging and up into the rocks and timber, have never seen any blacktail that haas came close to his size, he was amazing in size.
