I was really peeved during the debate last night when they called Social Security and Medicare entitlements. Seems that I have about 10% of my gross going into those holes. How can it be an entitlement when I'm paying for the fricken things???

I was equally outraged when they called those programs entitlements, as everyone who works for a living pays into them. Seems to me that they are
investments, and its just another way they think they can get slimy hands into them.

Social Security and Medicare entitlements. I guess it means that you are entitled to them. By defination they are entitlement programs.

Ok if you pay into them, you are entitled to them. You don't pay , you are not entitled.

I am also not sure on how they are entitlements but I think we can all agree the youth are screwed. For those old enough to get in soon it will work fine ( and it should as they paid too) but those who are 30 and under will pay the rest of their working days and get little if any return. Not something you can count on in you golden years anymore.

I looked it up and some entitlements you pay into and some you just get money for nothing(and chicks for free)

the coming problem with social security is not what they are going to have to pay out but that the government borrowed from ss over the years when it had extra money and was spent on other things.
another problem is the people who worked for the government retire then go to work in the private sector for 5 or so years and then get ss plus a government pension.
