How was it for everyone? We went to Patterson for the opener. This was first time hunting there this early. It wasnt pretty and there were not many local birds. Got one Scaup and a crippled woody. The dogs had fun but they wanted some more action. It got so bad that the dogs were itching to chase coots.

My buddy and I ended up with a mixed bag of 25 ducks and 4 geese for the first 2 days. Pretty slow this year so far but it should get better smile

Couple of hours sittin in the mud. 6 ducks (pins/GWT) and 4 White Front geese. Then we had to pick cranberries. After we started picking the widgeon finally started flying, but I couldn't convince the boss to let me off the machine.

Yes, they are also called White Fronts I believe. We have been getting them in the early season the last 3 years. I ate one last night on the 'cue, it was frickin' delicious.

The only Spec I ever shot is up on the wall at a buddy's house in Walla Walla. I haven't seen that bird in 10 years......

Shot a lot of honkers and greenheads in my day but......

Was out hunting Canadian Honkers when a nice flock came in, set, but flared up at the last second. All I heard was:

"Parker, shoot the Spec!"

Of course, not even knowing what a specked goose was at the time, said "Shoot the what?"

The reply that came back was "Shoot the little one with the orange feet."

So I did.

Picked it up and instantly wondered what I had shot, and if it was even legal. I was quite relieved when I was told it was OK to have shot.

To this day, I still think that's the only one I've ever seen in the wild...and I killed it.
Super. wink

We ended up with 21 on opening morning. The next day was a bit slower since we did not get where we were to day before. Sunday we ended up with 15 ducks and 5 geese. I did not get to go out yesterday, but my buddies did, and they managed 14 in just under an hour. If the season keeps up this pace (which it wont) I am going to need to buy another case of shells.
