It was a good move making the announcement today. Whether Tye coaches the rest of the year is irrelevant. They needed to do this for recruiting.
We all know recruiting suffers after a coaching change. It was already suffering do to Tye tenuous hold on his job.

This buys the Dawgs some time. It allows us to send a message to uncommitted recruits. The recruiting game has really changed. I know this having personally gone through the process myself years ago. You aren't just recruiting next years class anymore, but classes three years down the road. That is why sophmores are now getting offered ful rides for committing early.

Likely there are local kids out there that bleed purple and have dreamed of playing for the Dawgs but couldn't commit due to the direction of the program. Now they have something to think about. Given the right hire, that coach will also have a chance to turn around some of the other schools commitments. 18 year olds are famous for changing their minds, especially on signing day.

If you're a Dawg fan, your prayers were answered today.

i think he might be a good hire...he would have won some games this year if al davis didn't screw around with him....he probably knows a couple more plays than dive plays

I think Lane would be good for the Dawgs. Nick Saban was awsome as a college ball coach before going to Miami and is doing great with Bama now. There are many coaches who make the jump from college to the NFL that find themselfs unable to match thier previous success rate upon getting there. I think Lane would be good for recruiting and would be a breath of fresh air for a team that really, really needs one. -T

I hope whoever takes over turns it around. The Pac 10 is getting pretty stale these days. It needs the Huskys to get back into the mix. Its a pretty interesting confernce when the Washington teams show up.
