You dont need the G3. Yes they are nice, but not neccesary. I have the Simms classic guide model and it is a few years old now and still doing great. I got it new on Ebay for about 200.00 dollars. Just my .02 cents.-TBJ

I have the Orvis Tailwaters, its an ok rain jacket about 4-5 years old now & re-treated about 4X.
I'd look @ that Simms Guide Jacket, I've tried them on & like the fit & look better than my Orvis. Waterproofing on it has to be better than mine....

G3. I'd use no other.
I have the older SIMMS Guide jacket and the G3 is far more of a nicer jacket.
I had but gave away my Columbia Queets River Jacket. It's not even in the same league as the SIMM's jackets.

I'm in the market for a wading jacket as well. I narrowed it down to the Simms G3, no question. 18 years ago I decided to buy a 10x wading jacket instead of spending the next $50 and buying the Simms Classic. Although the 10x is a nice jacket, it leaked after 1 season of use. A decision I regret every time I put my jacket on in wet weather. Use Microsofts www.live.com search to find "simms g3 jacket", follow the ebay "live cashback link", follow the rules, and use "buy it now" with PayPal. You'll spend the $399 now and get $100 back from Microsoft through PayPal down the road a little. Using this method the G3 will ultimately cost you $300, no tax, no shipping - if you pick the right vendor - and its now in your price league.

the patagonia jackets are awesome. i love mine and would rather support them than Simms due to the night and day difference in customer service. That being said the G3 is a sweet jacket as well.

Rossiman,
You might look at a Shimano Convergence 10.6 foot rod. They are about $85 sometimes less.
See how they feel compared to a Lami or Loomis. Be sure to put your reel on it so you will know the feel of the combo.
I can tell you they feel like a turd, however you are just using the thing to cast a float. My buddy paid 69.99 for his. I have a vedder I could let go. Its the lighter model, but it landed this.
