So...for some godforsaken reason I downloaded a beta version of IE8, and it sucks ass. I was plenty happy with IE7, and now I can't get it to come back on...

I can't find IE8 in the "remove programs" list, and when I try to download IE7 from ms.com, it won't let me because "it's already on your computer, dumbass"...

Anyone know how to get rid of IE8 and get IE7 back on top?

Fish on...

Todd

try a restore point set before you made the change to ie8 (START / ALL PROGRAMS / ACCESSORIES / SYSTEM TOOLS / SYSTEM RESTORE / Follow the prompts), then when it gets going, download mozilla firefox and never worry about it again.

If ye' be on xp

open control panel

Click "add/remove programs"

Look to the far left and click "add/remove windows components"

a "windows component wizzard" will apear

un-check the box that says "internet explorer" then click next

should uninstal any IE and then you click finish.

then go download IE7

Firefox is by far a much better browser. I have Vista Ultimate and never have had a problem with Firefox. IE is another story.

I haven't fixed it yet, 'cuz I just got back in.

I'm running Vista, and in spite of the anti-hype, it works pretty excellent for me.

Thanks for the tip, j 7, I'll give that a try.

Todd

P.S. I have it on Firefox right now, since I can't get IE8 to work worth a crap.

Success!

On Vista...I went to the Control Panel, clicked on "Programs", and searched around for "Uninstall Windows Components"...not there. I clicked on "Updates", and there it was...uninstalled it.

Even better, after restarting IE7 re-became the default browser.

I take back all I've said about you guys...except Goharley, who was about as helpful as a two legged stool.

smile

I've been busier than crap! Doesn't look to let up by the end of the year, either! That does not bode well for my time on the river for the remainder of 2008. frown

Yeah, we'll getting a Mac is still *good* advice.....

Any fish down your way yet Archer? The Rev. Dr. Parker still needs to come down to get your data back on your new computer.

So much for the winter nooks this season....

No idea about what's there to be had... I haven't fished in 3 weeks. I've been stacking the ducks..... We'll see what the weather is like the next couple of weeks.....
