Looking for a Do-it-Jig mold that does collarless 1/4 an 1/8 oz roundhead jigs. I just started tying my own and like every thing fishing, I have to take things to the extreme. I'd also be willing to drop some $ for someone to pour me some jigs if they can offer a good deal.

Usually, places like Cabela's and Bass Pro Shops are good for that sort of thing online. Surprisingly, a lot of local fishing shops will carry a limited supply as well. I've seen some sold on the Classified page here every now and then.

I believe that "pouring your own" might have been more popular in the past because jigs needed for steelhead fishing used to suck many phalli at once. The hooks were virtually worthless and, with the lighter ones, the hooks were way too small. With the popularity of jigs in the recent past, there are now good jigs and jig heads available. Like everyone has said, Rvrfshr products kick ass, are very well priced, and are created/sold by PP board members that have contributed a lot (too much?)to the board over the years. Besides that, if they give you something that sucks, you can give them hell right here.

In the end, you'll probably buy a bunch of jig heads AND get a mold. You got bit by the bug hard.

If working with lead, do it OUTSIDE. Also, others may disagree with me but 1/4 oz is getting on the heavy end for steelie jigs. It seems like a lot of guys are fishing very light jig heads. I'm not really sure what is "normal" though?

normal is 1/4 for bigger low vis streams...1/8 for smaller or high vis streams

I, myself, prefer a 15/64 oz. jig over a 1/4 oz.

I let Joe handle ALL of the lead pouring...since he's been working with road paint and such for twenty years, I figure he's got a good layer of stuff in there protecting his lungs...

Bird, shop around, find out what the best price is you can find on good jigheads...good ones on quality hooks, not junk...and then check our website. You'll be pleasantly surprised at how little you might have to spend to buy the best jigheads around.

Well I can tell you all that if anyone has a layer of lead in their lungs, it's me. I've been a solder technician for the Navy for the past several years and I handle lead solder all day long. Last time I was tested, I was three times over the normal amount of lead in my system. We have kick ass ventillation which doesn't really matter because lead has to get way hot to vaporize. The way it gets into your body is through your skin. Handling the stuff without gloves on will cause fine particles to enter your body through pours. As long as I'm still able to get wood I'm good. The problem with most the jig molds as well as the jigs themselves around here is that they all hove a collar (crappie jigs). It looks like I'm gonna have to order online for this one. But my offer remains for any one who wants to knock out some 1/8 oz. jigs for me.

by the time you spend the money on a collarless mold... 30$ then the $$ for the best jig hooks. then the $$ to paint or powder coat. trust brewer. just buy the prepoured and painted jig hooks. i think you enjoy the tying of jigs, not the pouring painting too. just the respected brewer 2 cents

Birdsnest, like I said above...we pour thousands of jigs, without collars, on the best jighooks around...if you're looking for a fifty bag you can buy them right off of our website at a competitive price, better than any price you'll get collarless jigs poured on any round bend Gami or Owner hook...if you're looking for bulk, jigheads in the several hundred range, we'll kick anybody's price right in the ass, by a long length.

it's a true story...Rvrfshr jigheads kick ass. DO NOT buy cabela's jigs, I have straightened out the hooks with 10 lb leader on...they are super cheap in many ways.

No reason to reinvent the wheel.
The RVRFSHR jigheads work great and fish well painted or not. You won't beat the price and quality.

Don't low ball him, throw in that pinner too.

I was thinking about pouring my own jigs. But, decided it wasn't worth it. I'd rather buy the raw jigs in bulk and color them the way I want.

I agree RVRFSHR hooks and jig heads are a good way to go. I've been tying some up during this snowy weather. Thinking I should be out freezing my butt off trying them out.

Well you all have convinced me that it's not worth the $ to pour em myself. I'll be buying some rvrfshr 1/8 oz #1's after Xmas and painting myself. I think 50 should last me this season. Maybe if I was selling jigs online it would pay for itself after pouring a couple hundred, but I really don't think I can be competitive with the 100 other jig tyers selling on the web right now. Besides I'm still new to tying and steelhead for that matter.

He won't freeze his butt off. He's got them new Simm Extremes...

WalleyeWorld on this board does a lot of casting. Most of what he does is on a barter system and his main need is wheel weights. If you have access to wheel weights and need something cast, he is the guy to go to. Send him an email and see if he will pour you some jigs in trade for some lead. He can also do down rigger balls, lead wire, lots of the larger jigs, etc.

I can't make promises, but here is a source that a lot of others on this board have used with excellent results.
