PenTac is back, but Jed Davis seems to have dropped off the map.

Anyone know the whereabouts of Mr Spinner these days?

TIA,

Brian

Didn't Jed Davis die of heart attack about 10 or 15 years ago???

I didn't know PenTac had ever left. I was buying PenTac spoons and spinner components before RVRFSHR came along and stold my business. Matter of fact, I wish RVRFSHR had a "PenTac Buy Back or Trade" program. I'd happily trade my PenTacs for some equivalent RVRFSHR spoons......

Their website has been up for many a year now:

I still love the 4.5 silver spinner blade. thumbs

Gotta have some love for 4.5 blades. Extended family has a place at the Hoh Estates below the Park. Used to land some nice dollies and occasional chinook with a tarnished blade rubbed bright with river sand, not just for coho.

Thanks Parker - last i'd heard was from '96 or so. Too bad - he was a very innovative angler. And yeah, those 4.5's rock for hoochies (or any # of others things I've hung off the siwash) to attract ho's.

I just ordered some stuff from them a few weeks back. They're a little short of inventory, but, still around.

The 4.5's were the go to spinner blade! I only have a handful left!!! I might have to give Joe or Todd a call for some 5's so I can twist some up!!!

Yeah, Joe/Todd got my biz these days. Nice spinners those wagglers - I picked up a pack of #2 blacks last September 'cause I wanted a break from swinging flies.

Went down to Reiter Hwy side about noon. Bunch of long faces greeted me as I walked down. About an hour later when I returned, the long faces asked me how I did. I'm certain they were sure I was full o' sheet when I said two steelies and a semi-bright 'nook. smile

i never heard he passed away, is this true. i had heard he had some sort of a illness. i know he ran a good buissness then whenhis old timer machinest died things went south for him. then i heard he had a nervous break down when pentac crashed. i found it odd that he couldn't find someone to fill or equally replace the old timer.....

then mortac couldn't keep thier crap together either. i mean how hard is it cut, stamp, punch, bore, plate and package small parts???? i've watched enough "how's it made" to think it's not trully rocket science to make spoons and spinner parts.

brewer still has some pentac bodies and blades. however i don't seem to fish them much anymore. i used to just sley klickatat kings on those spinners.

About Jed Davis. He is alive and well. He did go through some changes after Mor Tac wnet down, but nothing like a nervous breakdown. He did quit steelhead fishing and now is active in coaching girl's sports.

Hell I still pull it up my screen and stare at it. But I gota telll y, like a lot of really pertty women she is insecure and more than a little crazy. If you look up Psycho Biatch in dictionary you will likely see her picture.

This one is for Brewer, no flame intended.

If you (not jokingly), believe what you see on "How it's Made", try building a rod like the Scott, Powell or Thomas & Thomas in the one episode they aired... It would not likely even resemble a fishing tool if completed as shown... let alone fetch $650 in a fly shop.
Kind of like Martha Stewart painting a picket fence with a car washing mitt... "It's just fun and that simple"... Except for the 5 guys they had to get from Labor Ready to prime it before hand, and clean up the extensive mess afterwards.

I was informed that Jed sold the plating process' which he developed to a European hinge/knob/hardware/silverware manufacturer, along with an agreement to not produce lures for a period of 10 years. After the 10 year moritorium Bobby and his wife assumed the molds, dies and tooling patterns, and resumed production of the lures. I used to get spinner/spoon components from Jed when Pen-Tac was in Seattle, then one day he just vanished, rumored health problems and all.
Wherever he is now (Oregon ?), I'd like to extend thanks for his pioneering efforts in modern day spinner design, along with well wishes in his post steelheading life.

Joe - I think he's still in the Seattle area, if the Jed Davis / girl's sports coach is the same one.

Dave - if you put "Steelhead Fishing" and "Psycho Biatch" into a google search, I challenge you to pick which one of the infamous three would come up. I think yours is the underdog. bikini

Funny . . . two of them look like they could be sisters!

Oops. . . back on topic => thanks for the update on Jed Davis.

rvr, don't quite follow your point. theres a difference between handcrafting a fly pole.... and having a lathe turn spinner bodies and press punch out blades and and spoon blanks. then if all this is the same to you then i guess it does make total sense.

anyways i hope jed is doing fine.
