Oh, if I only knew then (2002) what I know now about how to obtain the most flattering images of a decent fish.....

Discounting the fact that the posted image is scanned from a print developed from a disposable film camera (complete with the camera man's thumb obscuring the right side of the frame), that pic violates virtually every tenet of the modern-day patented fNp pseudo-MEGA-hawg method of posing a fish for the camera. Only wish I could go back in time to get a better pic. Guess the replica will have to suffice for now. wink

Mighty L-O-N-G odds on that one.

That hen is already at the 99.9%-ile of the entire population of female Kenai kings. Said another way, 999 of every 1000 Kenai hens is under 51 inches. The largest hen ever sampled by ADFG (that's the mega-MOAH, stam) measured 57 inches!

For comparison, a 99.9%-ile Kenai buck would measure 58 inches or better. The largest ever sampled by ADFG measured 61 inches. The world record (heaviest) king measured 59 inches. I believe the longest sport-caught Kenai king ever landed measured 60 inches. Yukon can give us more details on the weight.

That fish was 60" long, it was caught on July 6 upriver a ways (obviously). I believe the official weight was 88+ pounds many hours after it was caught. It was caught in a pretty random spot that is not usually fished for kings, to my knowledge a king hasn't been caught there since.
I have actually fished that guy for silvers and sockeyes within the past couple years. I don't remember the exact year but I believe that fish was caught in '94 or '95.
If that fish would have been caught in the tidewater I have no doubt it would have been over 100.
I have some info on the mount of that fish as well, if anyone has seen "big Gus" at Steward's landing that is this fish, with its belly "blown up" as if it was fresh from the ocean. There is also a great skin mount of the fish that is with the guide who caught, at one time it was on dispay at Mountain View Sports in Anchorage. I know the taxidermist well, he is very protective of that mold and will ask the lodge it was caught at for permission to mold it up for others, such as sporting goods stores who want one for display. There is one on display at B&J Commercial in Anchorage.

Hope that helps Doc!
