Only a week and half until the opener and I can't wait! Although, with the rough winter and cool temperatures, I wonder how active the birds will be. I have access to some prime private land, but the last couple of openers, I've had a difficult time getting any sort of response from them. Tempted to save my vacation days and just go on a weekend later in the year.

I know the youth opener was this weekend. Did anybody make it out?

I have two friends that took out their kids in Colville area. We have some big farms to hunt over there and the birds were fed through winter. Both had birds down by 10:00. One 8 and one 9 1/2 inch. Both nice toms. I was not with them they said the birds were very vocal and it was almost(and I mean almost) to easy. One of them had teh bird fly down at 15 yards directly from the tree and start the strut that close. Not sure where you hunt but looks like the nasty winter did not hit those farms to bad. Could be a different story in areas that the birds are not fed through winter.

Appreciate the report. I hunt off of Hwy 2 near Spokane, so I should be okay. Not sure if the birds are fed in the area, but glad to hear they are active. Even more stoked now!

Hunted hard last Thursday covering 6.5 miles and had 2 turkeys gobble but shut up when I closed the gap on them....

Maybe this coming week, I'll be back out after them...
